Senior Yorkie Talker | top knots help! Lexi wont keep still no matter what. Top knots are so hard to get on her. Her head is full of hair, it's going through that awkward stage of growing out. She's got this weird bang and i'm trying to grow it out so later on it will be out of her eye. What can I do for her at this awkward time? I've already considered using pet silk top knot gel. But i'd have to order it online. I'm from toronto, Canada and I think it would be good to get something local. Anything anyone can recommend???

| When I first started doing topknots, I thought it was hopeless. Although I worked with Maximo from the moment I brought him home to accept having me touch and groom him, he fought the topknot. Don't give up. Eventually it will become second nature to you and your pup. You might find it easier to train Lexi to rest her chin on a small pillow while you work on the topknot. If she knows "down," that is a good starting point. Use plenty of praise and treats to train. I strongly advise against any human hair products and urge caution even with those made specifically for dogs. Maximo is currently recovering from an eye ulcer that may have been exacerbated by top knot gel. He is a rough and tumble boy and he was out in the rain which may have led to the gel getting into his eye. When Max was a pup and his hair was growing and sticking into his eyes, I dabbed a tiny bit of Vaseline on the stray hairs. It wasn't the prettiest, but it did the trick. |
