| DIY 1st Groom? Okay so we are taking Piper out tomorrow to the Austin Ice Cream Festival. She is in need of a trim anyway, but I want to give her one to cool her off more. She's never been groomed and I called around and nobody has any availability within my time range. My husband has one of those adjustable trimmers, basically the exact same I've seen for dogs. I'm not looking to get fancy and stuff, just get some excess hair off. Any tips on how we should do it, areas to avoid, or what number to use on her? I'm looking up videos too, but figured I'd ask the experts I have to add also, it has a major guard on it and honestly when I tried using it on her briefly it did basically nothing, so I know she won't get hurt. |

| Can you post a picture of her? It really depends on her coat type. My girl has a cotton coat and I do use the clippers to shave her down - a bit - but I don't shave shave her. I think I use the second largest comb guard and then I still trim her with scissors. Max has very fine hair and I don't ever use clippers on him - just scissors. Oops - I do use clippers on the tips of their ears, bellies, and a little place on their butts.

| Okay. The first "groom" was a success. I took the guard off but never let it touch her skin, while I didn't get as much as I wanted, I did trim her up and I guess any less hair when it's hot is a good thing. She looks totally normal! I'll take her to the groomers next week where they can give her the real deal |

| I have always cut Dollys hair at home; it's just easier on her & I don't have to worry about making appointments. I do her body with scissors because I like her hair a kittle longer but just got a trimmer for her ears. It's a Conair Ladies 5 in 1 trimmer. It's made for bikini lines & eyebrows so it's got a tinier cutting edge than men's trimmers. I tested the blade without the combs against my skin & really pressed - didn't cut me at all. The "blade" is only about an inch long, so it's perfect size to manuever on her ears. Best part was it was only $6 on clearance! It isn't "professional" quality work, but I really prefer bathing & grooming her myself, so it's perfect for me. The first time I used it, I put her on my lap and turned it on & gave her treats until she calmed down enough to let me trim her. |
