| Help Im not sure! I am a first time dog owner who has always looked at how cute and adorable other ppl's Yorkies look so a yr ago i decided that it was the time to get Edward he has been with me since 04/07/2009. Since then I have always tried to be a good Mommy but the grooming is such a hassle specially since i have never groomed any type of dog at all so i have been only shampooing my baby with no conditioner and only using one type of brush his hair i know could be better but i recently was talking to another fellow YTer because i had no idea that there were cotton coats and silky coated Yorkies. I purchased a new pin brush and CChristensen shampoo and conditioner i just used it today and his hair is a lot softer and was easier to brush after the bath but he still looks nothing like what other YTers achieve with their babies what should i do any other tips?

| Do you know what coat type he has? I know for a fact, that no matter what I use, Kaji will never look like a show yorkie. I would probably need a straightener and some chemical relaxers to help with the curls and frizz of his cottony coat. If you just switched shampoos, give it a few weeks. I hear great things about the products you bought. After a few weeks, and a nightly brushing routine you'll see a difference.

| My Sophie has a cotton coat- pretty much uncontrollable when long. Sophie on the other hand has a silky coat which hardly ever knots. There is a huge difference between the 2. I have heard of people working wonders with a cotton coat and the right products but I prefer 2 keep Lola's hair cut short. She is much happier this way. Sophie's hair is medium length and not difficult to care for. I agree, keep up with the bathing and brushing and see what happens in a few weeks. Your little guy is very cute by the way.

With the conditioner use Lots of it, particularly where his hair is thicker and might mat easier. Use even on his face topknot, beard etc. To rinse there you can use an empty ketchup squeeze bottle if you feel the spray nozzle rinse is too much. Also leave some conditioner in the coat, as well as let the conditioner soak in for 2-3 minutes at least. Now is a good time to give edward a massage You want to feel that the coat is still slippery to your touch after rinsing conditioner. Also use cooler water on the rinse, that will help with the sheen. Lots maybe as much as a palmfull or so for his whole body If you blowdry your boy you can try to ease the "curls" by gently pulling from root to tip and holding hair straight as you blow dry down the hair shaft. Yorkies can be trimmed once a month or so - just take an 1/8 of inch or so off the coat ends everywhere. As other posters say you need to use the product for at least 4 washes ie a month to see difference in coat. Hang in there, you'll see a difference.

YT Addict | A ketchup bottle, who'd thunk it. That is a fantastic idea!! AND part of the answer of my issues how to handle the button face! AND don't forget the petsilk. I had a YT'r suggest that and what a lovely addition to the products we use that was, took care of that floppy hair in the eye thing we had going. But the ketchup bottle, I love it!! (Mia won't , but I do) I am hoping she starts to enjoy bath time |

Have you tried to blowdry him using the brush to gently straigthen out the wet coat and dry down the line from root to tip? It might help out a bit there. Also from Laser Lites they have a product called pet silk, that can be used two ways, added into your conditioner, and or diluted with water in a spray bottle and used as a grooming spray.

| Oh yeah I was also thinking that depending on how his hair is after a few more baths with the new products i will look into giving him the schnauzer cut I think that short cut is super cute but the groomer I take him to has never really cut his hair any specific way she just cuts the ends for me so I dont know how good she is at different styles of short cuts...I should probabbly do some more research on other groomers in my area b4 I make my final decision.
