| What to do when grooming a yorkie puppy? My little dog Lexie is my first small dog, and of course my first yorkie. She is almost 3 months old, and we have started brushing her with a steel comb. I was reading in Yorkshire Terrier magazine that it is good to put in the leave-in conditioner and conditioner with water in a spray bottle. But the question is at what age and around how long does her hair have to be so I could start doing that to her? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey's breeder recommended Biogroom cream rinse and conditioner, and I've been very happy with the results. She believed that a conditioner should always be used, because you are conditioning the skin as well as the hair, and it's easier to prevent skin problems than cure them. You can email the Biogroom Company and they will send you some free samples to try, just click on "contact us" and request some samples of the products. Our local Petsmart started selling them or you can buy online. Bio-Groom - Exceptional Pet Care Products for Over 30 Years I use a brush on Joey to get out any tangles, and then finish using a steel comb close to the skin. The puppy coat mats more than the adult coat and I paid special attention to the area under the arms. A good pin brush is really useful in getting out tangles before they turn to mats, and I really like the CC small wooden pin brush. The tips won't hurt skin or pull hair, and tangles come out easily. https://www.a1petsupply.com/secure_h...odpinbrush.gif

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It's a comb made of steel! They are great when puppies are young because if the bite the comb they don't ruin it. http://www.petworldshop.com/pictures...l-dog-comb.jpg.

| I like to get them used to everything, spray bottle, clippers, blow dryer etc as early as possible. The younger they are, the better they accept it, so as they get older and you need to use those items, they don't freak out. |

YT Addict | Keep us posted! I started Mia at a very early age, she went when she was 3 mos. just for a bath, brush, nail trim and personal trim, and then went back at 5 mos. and they informed me she was too much and wasn't trimmed. SO now I am working on learning how to do this as i think she will tolerate it better if I do it in small spurts. And will be going this coming week to the breeder she came from who grooms. She is 3 hours away in Grand Island and is going to try and help me learn. I look forward to hearing how you come along with your little one. And I am thankful for the tips and info everyone on YT have given me in my short 2 weeks! Thank you, Mia does not want to be sporting a funny fur cut |

| We are probably going to cut her in about a month. My mom also wants to cut her hair eventually, but we are going to take her to the groomer the first couple of times that she gets her hair cut. She wants to see how they leave it so she could learn a little bit on how to cut it. |
