| When to take your Yorkie to the Groomers for the FIRST time? My yorkie, Gizmo, is 3 mo 2 wks. I bathe him once a week and brush him almost everyday. His hair is growing on top of his head to where it looks like he can barely see...so is it time to take him to the groomers? If not, how much longer should I wait? |

| Has he had all his shots? You need to be careful taking your pup to the groomer before they have had all their shots, however, once he has, it is never too soon to start grooming. I like to take mine right away to get them used to the groomer, the first time I only have a bathe, brushing, and maybe a little trimming done. Then we work up from there. Good Luck!

If you really want him groomed, you could look for a groomer that comes to your house, they are usually more expensive but it could be a good option for a one time thing with a new pup!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | He needs to have all of his distemper boosters finished at the very least. some then say its best to wait another 2 weeks after the last booster. After that he can go to the groomer. if you want you can also get the bordatella intra-nasal vaccine as well since he'll be around other dogs. some groomers require it. rabies can wait till 6 months. personally i don't give bordatella to my yorkie. I was a vet tech and now a groomer. she came to the hospital with me and now comes to the grooming shop with me. haven't had a problem yet.

| where i live most groomers stopped accepting puppies that didn't have their rabies shot. i would invest in a good dog trimmer. it can cut down grooming appointments. and there are a lot of tutorials on how to groom if you want to save the money. just make sure you get a trimmer/clippers that have comb attachments that you can use while you're still learning so you don't nick your puppy. those saved me and now i don't even go to a groomer anymore. |
