| Puppy HATES being brushed.. advice Hi, our 12 week old puppy hates being brushed.. he tries to get away the first time we brush him, and cries, whines, and shakes if we continue... Any advice??? Should we try a different brush? Or how do we get him to realize it is ok?? |

| Welcome to YT! Choose brushing time wisely. Don't do it when his energy level is at its peak. Try gently massaging your pup before you brush his hair. Acclimate him to the feeling of being touched on his ears, his paws, and so on. Go slowly, but don't give in if he tries to get out of being groomed. Give praise and small treats to encourage him. The right brushing/grooming utensils depend on your pup's size and hair type. Always hold sections of hair close to the root and brush/comb with your other hand so that you aren't pulling at the skin. Start combing/brushing at the end of the hair shaft. If the utensil moves easily through the hair, start a little higher up with the next stroke. Are you having any trouble with tangles or mats? You can also train your pup to associate grooming with something highly desirable. For instance, my boys know that after grooming, they go for a long walk -- their favorite activity. Hope some of this helps. |

| Brush them in the morning, right after they wake up. You can also brush that a night when they are sleepy. When you are done with brushing them...give them a treat. Miley now sees the brushes and comes running. She sits perfectly until I say "all done"....then she goes straight to the treat jar. She used to hate brushing too. She would try to bite the brush and run away from me. |

| Try the brush on your arm if it hurts you it hurts your puppy. First thing I did was start giving them a belly rub they love that, then continue rubbing their neck, head, ect. Then change your hand for the brush they won't even notice. Don't brush your puppy doing their hyper time.
