| pony tail ok ??? My little lexi has very fine thin hair. I like to put her hair up in a pony tail---not enough for top knot. Question is since her hair is thin and fine, can I keep the pony in or will it damage her hair. I don't want her to end up bald on top . How long is it ok to leave in, and should I have times when I just leave it out a few days? Wouldn't you know it, Sarge has plenty of hair. Thanks! Cathy, mom to Sarge and Lexi |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | You should cut the band out every night. Mine wear their hair up everyday.

Yorkie Yakker | Hello Henesey is the same. Her top knot is short and thin. I do put pony tails but only for a while. I dont use rubberbands. They take hair with them when you try to remove them. I use childrens little hair things. They come in large packs and you can find them just about any store. I leave them in during the day and remove them at night, only for her because she scratches at it at night. SHE KNOWS lol. But i would say try using anything but rubberbands!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Bio-groom makes a texturizer for thin hair, it's a spray in product, I bought when Joey was a puppy, and I spray it on the topknot hair, it really thickens the hair without making it look like there is any product in it. He had super thin topknot hair as a puppy, and at three, I still have more than half the bottle, so it's a good value. The band shouldn't break the hair, I like using the thinner bands with lots of stretch, and the main thing is to not place the band on too close to the scalp. Joey's breeder recommended placing a steal comb between the band and the scalp to loosen the band, if you keep the band too tight, you will lose circulation to the area, and balding and even blackening of the skin may occur. I keep Joey's topknot in all the time, but it pretty loose at bedtime.

| I've put Teddi's hair up in the back (I call it a butt pony) when she had had the runs before. I use the thicker soft scrunchie kind of bands. Here is a picture.

| I wouldn't even use any rubber bands. They do break the hair and then you end up with short hairs growing over the eyes. Just use little clips, and don't put them in too close or tight to the scalp. I braid my girls top now and put the tiny rubber bands at the very end of the braid.

| Thanks for all the good info--I'll have to look into the bio-groom texturizer, and new bands. I'm glad I don't have to give up the pony tail. I loved the pony butt! Cathy, mom to Sarge and Lexi |

When you remove the band, carefully cut it out, do not try to remove otherwise. My girls hair is super fine also. We do pony tails and top knots but found that she lost so much hair for a number of reasons. Turned out that she started thinning in her temple area and wasn't due to hair falling out but due to breakage. I have used tissue (the kind to wrap rods when doing a perm) to wrap the lock before applying the band. This has helped tremendously. Also if you can get small (tiny) pieces of silk, edges finished, then you can get different colors to match harnesses, leashes and or outfits I am going to try this next time. Due to the loss of hair (breakage) I just cut her hair last winter (on top of head above eyes) so to give her bangs and let it all grow out again. Fine hair is so very fragile! | |

Just do a google for "Bio-Groom Spray Set Texturizer" Here's one place, but you have to compare shipping prices. Bio-Groom Spray Set Texturizer (12 fl oz)
