| brushing my NEW and adorable Yorkie - wet or dry? I read somewhere that I am supposed to wet the brush or wet the dog before brushing him. Is that really true? (I am hoping to post a picture or two tomorrow...he is SO CUTE!!!). |

| A damp coat is best when brushing to help prevent breaking. I usually mist a detangler spray and brush. How old is your baby? Can't wait to see pictures. |

| How about a pin brush, do you use this on dry or damp hair? I have a boar brush that I use on damp, I still get mixed up with the wet/dry brushing and combing

| Yes a damp coat is best. Like AMD I use a detangler, MagicCoat's Good-by Tangles Spray, before brushing. I use a Safari pin brush. I spray and brush Chi-Chi's coat once a day. |

| I dampen their hair with a detangler and use a Madan pin brush.

| Never brush a dry or dirty coat. Using a good detangler brush such as a Mason Pearson Brush or ISINIS brush. Spray the brush with a good leave-in conditioner and brush layer by layer. If you encounter a mat. Place your finger between the skin and the mat and gently work it out with a slicker brush.

| Okay great info! So how about a boar bristle brush, do you use that damp too? I'm guessing yes, but want to be sure!

| Boar Bristle Brushes are used for finishing . In other words after all tangles/mats are removed and you are putting the final touches on a coat. You spray the brush with whatever finishing product you are using.....such as an anti-stat or shining product.......then brush the top layer of coat.

Remember the information I'm giving you is for those that are attempting to grow coat. It's what I do when I'm preparing a dog for the ring. I know that care for a pet puppy coat is not as intensive, but do deserve good coat care. I use pin brushes for the ring, but not for regular coat care, if you have tangles they pull on the coat and can cause split ends and breakage.

| What I do is a bit different. I don't brush a coat every day, but I bathe every 4 days and while drying the coat, brushing layer by layer with an ISNIS brush.....very comperable to a Pason-Pearson (considerably less expensive). But, I'm assuming your Bailey is a pet, so I would use either one of these brushes (spraying the brush with a conditioner and brushing layer by layer). Pason-Pearson has a detangler brush/combination (two types of bristtles), a bit more pricey....
