| For those who groom their own Yorkies - how to clip legs? I've been grooming Bitsy myself for the last year and have been pleased with the results. However, the last few months, she's been getting matts in the long hair on the upper parts of her legs (shoulders / hind quarters). The hair on her body is trimmed to hang down a couple of inches below her body, but leaving the hair this long on her shoulders is matting and it doesn't lay flat. Should I layer these areas or use clippers to cut the hair shorter? |

| Cutting the hair shorter would help reduce matting if that's what you want to do. What shampoo/conditioner do you use? Does she have a silky or cottony coat? Dog clothes and harnesses cause matting too. You might want to try a leave in conditioner to help reduce matting. You could trim the legs with scissors or you could use clippers if you want them shorter. Do you have a photo?
