| Yorkie with hair that has never been brushed... I apologize in advance...I can be long winded. My little sister brought over her best friend who has a yorkie today. We wanted to introduce out dogs so they could play. Her yorkie is only five months old and I believe she has only had him for about two months. As soon as she brought him in, even before I noticed how completely adorable he was, I noticed he had not been brushed in quite a while. I mentioned it and she said he doesn't like it so she doesn't do it. (insert really big long sigh here......) She is only 17 and a high school drop out so I am not even sure she is responsible enough for this dog. I tried to get ahold of him to work on his fur but he was so excited to play with my dog I never had more than a few seconds. She was taking him to the vet after she left (for the first time!) so I am hoping they mention it to her too. I told her that I would be willing to take the time to sit and work with him and brush his coat. She didn't sound interested and mentioned she might just get him shaved. We are in Michigan where the weather isn't great, and according to her, he hates clothes. So that is an option I frown upon. Besides, he is too cute. I stressed that she needs to brush him every day. Is there anything she can do to make it easier to untangle his fur without going so far as to shave him? I know once it gets done maintaining it shouldn't be a problem as long as she follows through. But this seems to be a big hump for her to get over. That has to be uncomfortable for the dog. I felt terrible looking at the shape he was in. |

| If the matting is too bad and to the skin the best thing is to shave and start over. If you think you can work them out you might try Chris Christensen Ice on Ice. You can spray it on the matts and try to work them out. I hate when people get long haired dogs and don't brush them

| I would definitely get your friend to comb/brush her dog everyday. Tell her she should use a detangler so the "chore" won't be so bad. Tell it that it can be a bonding time for her and her dog. I always enjoy grooming my two, even though they would just like to be held and not combed.

| An other example of someone that pick the WRONG BREED for his lifestyle! There is plenty of dog with short coat and don't need much grooming. The dog need to be shaved down, And maybe keep short so he won't need has much grooming. Make sure you keep an eye on the situation! That little pup is lucky to have you watching his back... |

| Well... Lilly HATES the brush, thanks to a past groomer. Therefore, I keep her in a puppy cut. I still have to brush her head hair though and with lots of patience and bribing with treats, she lets me. When I pull out the brush, she gets really excited and comes and sits in my lap. I just don't understand how someone can be so careless.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | It does take the propper comb/brush and consistancy. Aiden hates the brush, but knows it's not a choice. I brush all 6 of my animals everyday. 3cats 3 dogs. Otherwisw the hair just flying around would kill us. Routine is the key to life. I swear by it. Even when your doing. Pooty training, dieting, excercising, and the endless vacuuming I do daily...whatever." You get out of it, what you put into it" That simple little rule...lol...

BANNED! | That has happened to my Bingo and I didn't know what to do but to get his hair cut and now I learned to cut most of his hair and brush him even if he don't like it but now his hair is growing back wavy and since he don't like to get brushed I have no choice but to get his hair touched up every 5-6 month's but he does really good in the bath tub he loves the water...I guess she just needs patience for her Yorkie cause if you don't have that and don't get done what needs to be done your just neglecting the dog from his/her needs |

| I called my sister last night and told her to tell her friend if she can't get the dog's hair brushed in the next day or so, to bring him over or drop him off and I will do it. She doesn't want her dog to have to short hair. It isn't that long to begin with. An inch, inch and a half at most. She said after going to the vet she went and bought him shampoo and a few other things. (Shampoo just now!?) She will bring him over tomorrow if she can't or *won't* do it. We'll see. I have already decided that if she decides he is too much responsibility that I will take him or buy him off her. No need for DF's input there, lol. |
