| Couldn't believe my ears My mother was shopping in a local department store the other day. A woman who was also shopping had a yorkie in purse or carrier. My mother went up to the woman to see the dog. She couldn't believe how dark in color, mainly the black hair was. The woman actually said she dyed the hair black to keep it from going siver. I could not believe this. I can't imagine this is common practice. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Senior Yorkie Talker | Omg! That poor baby! I've never heard of that practice, but I haven't been in Yorkies long....I've heard of semi-permanent dyes you can use on like poodles and such but on a Yorkie?! Some people are just too freaking vain.

| I've never known anyone to dye a pet yorkie but show people dye their show dogs all the time, although most won't admit they do it

I love my black coated ones but wouldn't dye Gizmo to make him black again. He's my little gentleman, all silver and glowing.

| Exhibitors that color their show dogs try to get them a dark steel blue. Not black because black yorkies can be disqualified.

| Oh I heard of it. Just think it's nuts, If your not showing your dogs. Then coloring a Yorkies hair just to carry him around town is nuts. |

I never knew that. I would think it would be against the rules because the dog is not "Natural" in color according to the breed standard. How vain can you get? | |
