| It depends on the groomer - groomers at PetSmart Good morning - almost lunch time (Ducks the virtual tomatoes or worse getting pitched at me with that title.) I have been searching for grooming tips for the past few days. I read some horror stories about PetSmart and other groomers, and I am not denying them or how bad they were. But - Joplin MO's PetSmart has had at least one great groomer - she has become a family friend. Unfortunately she got pregnant and so left the salon. Please keep her in your thoughts as there is something wrong with the now-born baby. Heidi just adored her, and all of the groomers like Heidi. There were a couple of good groomers there when we took her last year. Unfortunately I/we are caught in the economy crunch, and their prices are too much for us right now. I don't work for PetSmart, never have and have no interest in the company. I simply dislike seeing all apples in a barrel tagged as rotten because of some/several apples are rotten. If you find a good groomer, one that you like, can you ask for her/when she's working when you book the appointment? We have never had any problem with that. If you find a bad groomer, is it against forum rules to post the name? I have noticed that some groomers move around a lot, from store to store. Joplin has several places that groom, so saying "I got a horrible groom at Hateful Howlers on July 1, 1856," may not be of much help to me. I find the posts that explain why the groom was bad to be very helpful; they teach me what to look for. Theresa |

| waited too long to edit... The post should have said "I have no financial interest" in PetSmart. I don't own stock, get paid any money for forum posting, etc. I just give them money in exchange for flea control products, flea combs, Yorkie toothpaste, grooming, and so forth Theresa Last edited by tramseyer; 02-23-2009 at 11:24 AM. | I tend to be in agreement with you. Not all Petsmart groomers are horrible at thier jobs. Yes , like any profession there will be bad some bad "apples" I like A groomer named Ryan , he works at Petsmart, and does a fantastic . Many custmers perfer him and request him. He grooms many Yorkies. I've had no issues with his grooming skills and he genuinely cares for all his dogs. I have observed other groomers at the same Petsmart and have only found one that I would not trust with Suzi. She was too rough. Also i did witness anther groomer leave her table with a dog on it... That sent the red flags up . I was scared for the poor dog, and she was not in arms reach. Ryan has never left a dog unattended on the table, and asks anther groomer to step up to the table if he can't be there. When the basics are violated it scares me. That is when accidents occur and we all know that they happen within a blink of an eye.

| Pet Smart University Drive, West Des Moines Iowa I tried groomer after boutique after groomer looking for a good cut for our yorkie poo Rocky. It took two years seriously. One cut was so awful, Rocky wouldn't go for our after work walk for 6 weeks. He hung his head in misery or embarrassment not sure which. Yorkie-poo's can be difficult I realize that. Rocky has more of the poodle hair and the groomers like to "groom" him for $40.00 then send me home with a dog that was cut to the skin. He was not matted and they would tell me that as we visited before I ever left him. Then one great day I found Tammi at Pet Smart. Rocky looks amazing, does not mind going to be groomed. Kisses her ( I watch him behind the glass). The cost is $35.00 and I tip her well, she is very, very good. This fall I got Carlie the Yorkie.....wow! Carlie is gorgeous when I pick her up. It doesn't matter if it is Pet Smart, Petco, the vet or one of the boutique shops. If you find a good groomer, Yippee! Tip them well, and hope they don't move or get tired of grooming your furbaby. |

| Petsmart Groomers I had Tucker trimmed at Petsmart in Knoxville, Tn when he was about 10wks. They have a "puppy package" for $15.00. A young man named Nick did an excellent job. I will take him back for another puppy trim in a week or so. I like being able to watch through the glass window. I will continue to "watch" each of his groomings. |

| Petsmart Groomers I may be confusing people be saying I am having Tucker groomed in Tn. We have two homes. We're in our Alabama home most of the time. WE also have a condo in Farragut, Tn, a suburb of Knoxville. My grandchildren are there, and we go about once a month. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The problem I see with places like Pet Smart is they do onsite training, and you probably should interview someone before you book that first appointment. Some of the people they hire have no experience. If you find someone that does a good job and listens to you, I would definitely ask for them the next time, and don't assume because you got lucky once, you'll get lucky again.

| WEll guess what folks i know I started a new thread about what happened to Suzi, but this goes hand in hand to what I previously wrote on here. Suzi was left on the groomer table by herself I was there and caught them, however one thought the other was with her, however TWO groomers walked away from the table. THAT's it for Petsmart Grooming. I was the one to call it to there attention, and was very upset to see my baby left unattendend. There are NO second chances when it comes to safety. Never again will I take my Suzi over to Petsmart They are also way overpriced, and do not use the best safety measures that they should be doing. That is when accidents occur.

| There are lots of good groomers at PetSmart. It wouldn't be fair to say that there aren't. However, remember that the groomer isn't the only one who handles your dog. Bathers and dryers do too. It wouldn't be uncommon for this to be in the back room...the one you can't see behind that glass window. I would really get to know the groomer and their assistant(s) and consider insisting on watching the bath. I just find it easier to do it myself and not have to worry about who is good, who is not, who cares, who is paying attention, etc.
