| My new puppy - Question about coloring Hi everyone! This is my first post (I just joined on Friday). And I have a few questions for all you experienced Yorkie lovers Here's a pic of a Morkie I'm interested in. She's about 4 hours from me - so if I'd like to buy her this weekend I'd need to give the breeder a deposit to hold her until then. I'm a little nervous about buying a dog site unseen. I'm just trusting my gut I guess. My question for you is: The top of her head has some light in it - it almost makes it look like her hair is thinning. I'm sure it just started to change colors and the rest of her will catch up. What do you think?? Is this a normal thing? (PS - since she's a morkie I'm hoping she stays mostly black and tan). Thanks for any advice you can give!! |

| What a cute puppy! For purebred Yorkies, that color change is very much normal. The top of the head turns grey, blond or golden, and then it usually settles into a rich golden-blonde color. Shortly thereafter, the saddle (i.e., the black back) turns a blue-grey color. I'm not sure to what degree Morkies retain this color-changing trait, if at all. But my guess is that if that dog's head has started changing colors, it will follow the usual Yorkie pattern of color change and won't stay black and tan like a puppy. |

| It looks to me like she will change colour! She is adorable Use the YT search tool and look for "Morkie" there are some adorable pix on here, I remember seeing one that started out mostly black and changed to a beautiful white/silvery colour all over taking after the maltese in him!

| How adorable! My morkie, Max, looked a lot like yours when I brought him home. I was hoping he'd stay those colors but his hair got a lot lighter. Other people I know with morkie's brought them home and they are the same color they were as puppies. It's kinda fun and you'll just have to wait and see. I'm attaching a before and after of my little guy. He's just over a year now and I'm bringing home a sibling in April who's all light brown, can't wait! |

| SpiceE is my first Yorkie ever. The whole color change was a surprise to me. Didn't matter what he was, color\size, whatever. Just thought he was the most adorable little puppy. He is 7 mos. old now and he went from the black and tan, that was growing out and a silvery white color with tans in his face and legs. Now it looks like the coat growing in has some black in it. I told my Mother I should have named him NATO or UN, he certainly has all colors represented.
