| For those of you that groom your own dogs. After reading all of the things that can go wrong when leaving a dog with the groomer, I want to sart grooming keely myself. But that may be a problem because I can barely do my own hair..lol.. How did you learn to cut your dogs hair? What are good products for cutting fur and shaving fur? I would like for keely to have a trim bi monthly how do i make sure its even? I dont want to groom her and making a total slaughter out of it..lol. I have cut the hair around the eyes myself and it worked out great. Oh, And, the hair inside her ears need to be plucked out, what is the right way to do that? (She needs it done because she is proned to ear infections and doing this helps keep them under control) .. Any advice you can give me will be appreciated! Thanks in advance! |

| i think that if you can do the area around her eyes, you should be fine with the rest of her. Maybe try trimming the fur on her legs or round her feet to start with, till you get your confidence. Thats what i did, and eventually trimmed Molly all over, just with scissors and comb. I havent dared to use the battery trimmer yet as molly is quite scared of the noise, but i am building up to it! Good luck. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | You will really need to invest in some clippers. Even if you aren't doing all over grooming...those are a must. You'll be able to keep their tummies shaved, paw pads, and their ears. I pretty much learned by trial and error. I haven't gotten too peeved at ME yet...

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Sprinkle a bit of baby powder in her ear...that'll make it easier to plunk....just pull a few out at a time. It's pretty easy...you don't have to use tweezers...it'll come out with your fingers.

| That you both for the advice Another question, What are the boundries for lucking the hair? Where should I stop plucking? Should I get my mom to buy special dog clippers or could I use people clippers that we already have that my dad used to use to cut his own hair? |

I have never done that, and so far, thank God, no problems. Do you mind telling me exactly what to do. Thank you, Prince's mom | |

YT 2000 Club Member | If you go to the grooming section their are stickies that have videos on how to groom and pluck the ears. I think it was Marcerella02 who did the video. She also tells what grooming supply she is using and were she got it from, i found it very informative

| If you read the right side of the thread posts, it tells what section the post was originally posted in. Click on one that says Groomer info and it will get you to the section where all the posts are related to grooming. |

| I started cutting my yorkies hair myself after 5 dogs and not being able to afford getting them all groomed professionaly. I was really scared at first, but got the courage and believe me....they all had really bad haircuts at first. But with practice and several cuts later, I got it...well almost I bought mens clippers for the butt area, and for the rest of the body I use comb and scissors. Usually my husband holds them down for me while I cut. I just pull out a few hairs in the ears that I think might tickle them. Good Luck and remember...trial and error, you'll do fine. |
