| Grooming ?'s Ok next week I am going to take my puppy to the groomer. She will be 10 weeks old. They said they will trim the hair around her eyes, feet, and bottom, clip nails, & give her a bath. My question is I want to let her grow a long coat so should I have them cut the hair around the eyes? This is my first yorkie and I am new to this. I do realize it is hair that will grow back but from pictures I have seen the hair around the eyes looks like part of the hair used to put a bow in. Any advice? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | If you are wanting to grow her coat out, don't let them trim around the eyes - at all. The hair sticking up around eyes can be smoothed down and held with hair gel(Petsilk makes one)....until the strays get longer. Then you will pull up the hair above her eyes in a ponytail and the hair below her eyes will be long enough it should lay down.

| Thanks for the advice so only let them do feet, top 1/3 of ears, & bottom? |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Right, and don't forget her nails - as long as she's going may as well let them do that. In the future if you want to groom her yourself (if you're growing coat) there isn't much to it. I've trimmed both of mine since getting them, after doing some research and buying a dvd and a few supplies.

| I took her last week and they cut her nails, and did a bath. I didn't want them to do too much on the first visit plus wasn't sure about the cut. I am trying to get her comfortable with getting cut and nails. I have seen alot about them not liking their paws touched so I have tried to make sure when she is in my lap I touch her paws alot and she doesn't seem to mind too much. Even the groomer commented on how well she did with the nails being clipped. Once she is used to it and a bit calmer I might look into grooming myself but not sure I can. I might start doing some research since you said it isn't hard and see what I come up with. Thanks so much. |
