| ????? Even though Mika is not going to be a show dog I would really love her to have a full coat. She is just coming up to 6 months old and although her hair isn't very long yet she has never had a single matt and it seems very easy to manage at the moment. She does always look scruffy though and I'm wondering whether or not I should have her professionally groomed, not clipped, just tidied up maybe shaped round the face? I don't want to delay her hair growth even more but I wondered whether a trim might help it grow longer, faster as it does ours? She is just starting to get a parting down her back too a great milestone!!! Her hair gets quite greasy too. I bath her every 10-14 days, I have been using Tresemme shampoo and Tresemme conditioner but I think I'm going to swap to Greenfield (from our vets) because her skin gets alittle flaky. Any advice on how best to get her to a full coat and maintain it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

| Let the hair grow. It won't grow any faster if you get it trimmed. Just wait.. must be patient with yorkie! Don't cut the face, it has the slowest growing hair on the whole dog! |

| Thanks. I wasn't sure. When I see pics of other yorkies at the same age they don't seem to be half as scruffy as Mika and always seem to have a nice shape around the face, even the young show hopefuls. I've trimmed the top third of her ears and around her feet but never anywhere else, not even round her bottom but she has never had a problem in this area. I'm wondering what to do with her tail too. As we're in the UK she has a full tail, should I trim this? How much should I leave on the tail?

Thanks! I'm actually trying to find her a better quality food but I'm finding it difficult to find one here in the UK. I have a thread in health and diet section asking for advice but no luck yet

| I've just ordered a 3kg bag from our local petshop, its £10($20) a bag but they do a loyalty scheme where I collect 5 barcodes and I get a free bag! I'll see how she goes on this bag and hopefully her skin and coat will improve.

| If you want to trim the tail you can do it like this. Part the hair that belongs to the tail from that on the butt. Brush hair on the tail. Then take the hair, pull it backwards along the tail (you have also the tail in your hand as well as the hair) and then cut it at the tip of the tail. If you want less trimmed look, then take the hair just from the middle of the tail to the tip and do the same. |
