| Questions about bath time Hello everyone! I'm a new Yorkie mommy and trying to figure out what's best for my little Zoe. The breeder I got her from (who shows) says she uses a specific human shampoo and conditioner for her show dogs. I happened to have that on hand as I used to use it myself. Zoe's had 2 baths in 3 weeks, though one was due to a little (possible TMI warning) incident of poop sticking to her butt. Now she's looking a little greasy, she bites her back legs/tail a bit (though we don't believe it's allergies, at least not yet), and the vet even noticed that she's a bit dry near her rear (though it could have been due to me not rinsing the shampoo off completely). I've been using that human shampoo/conditioner and baby shampoo for her eyes. I'm thinking that it's probably best to switch shampoo/conditioner though. I've read various things about Ph levels and the difference between using dog products and human products, nothing seems for sure though, but if I'm going to switch I may as well use dog products. Zoe's still a puppy, just shy of 4 months old. So she has her puppy coat, and I don't know what adult coat type she'll have. She gets brushed daily and so far we haven't had an issue with tangles but anything's possible. That said I'm looking for suggestions on what products to use for her. Thanks! -Vicky and Zoe |

Well .... eating is a whole issue for her. She more or less always eats, but not really. We joke that she's not to be bothered with 3 meals a day, please that's stupid. She'll eat twice, almost always dinner and either breakfast or lunch, depending on her mood? She's on what the breeder fed her (Eukanuba small breed puppy kibble), except she barely eats. There was a whole drama for more or less the first week over this. She would eat the smallest amount possible, so I couldn't say she didn't eat but she wasn't eating a lot at all! She wouldn't even eat canned food! But now she at least eats something, even if it's not a lot, it seems enough to sustain her. We hope this is due to there having been one bowl for her and her sister and her sister was just a big eater and maybe monopolized/guarded the bowl. That said, she eats SO little I don't think it's reasonable to be able to switch her food (even if I wanted to) in a slow and proper manner. We're talking 1-2 tablespoons PER MEAL, maybe 2-4 tablespoons (1/4 cup at the most) PER DAY !! And that's usually with coaxing, making it a game, etc. It'd make sense if the dryness was due to the kibble, but if she hadn't shown any symptoms before than I'm thinking the dryness is due to the shampoo, not the diet (though I'd love to get her on good food). | |
