Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I wet a soft toothbrush w/ warm water to get them loose - works really well.

| I've learned since being here that this is: 1) perfectly normal; 2) possibly improved by giving bottled or purified water; and 3) easy to clean off when done on a regular basis. If they happen to harden (which they don't, if you keep up with cleaning), you can soften them with eye wash from a pet store or even a little water or petroleum jelly. I took a tip from another YTer about using a flea comb to get the little bits out of his fur; works really well. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Shelby gets "eye gunk" every once in a while.... i think that is normal in yorkies (so ive heard).... as far as the eye being crusted, you should definitely take to the vet it could be an eye infection or something may have irritated your yorkies eyes and cause your yorkie to scratch/rub their eyes which led to an infection. Shelby is on NeoPolyDex Ointment until monday for an eye infection. She apparently got something in her eye and started to rub it this caused LOTS of eye gunk (discharge) and some crusting over night.... your Gizmo might be goin through this also. The medication is for 5 days.... Shelby will be done tomorrow and her eye saw improvement by the second day treated!! Good luck with ur lil one =] p.s. if the eye is not reddish or swollen you might just need to put a warm wash cloth over Gizmos eyes (gently) to wash away the gunk.

| If your baby has eye gook everyday I would get the advice of your vet. My poodle had that for the longest time and come to find out he has a condition called "dry eye". He now has eye drops everyday for life to control the condition. |

| I'm not a Yorkie expert, but after having the little guys teeth cleaned we noticed a huge difference. I've heard Yorkies have teeth that need more attention than some other dogs. If he has bad breath or smells near the face, that might be a good indication a visit to the Vet is in order. If you ever have any questions about your little guy, a visit to the vet "promptly" is good, even if you think it is just a normal thing for them. |
