| Groomers woes....I have only just started and it makes me so sad!!! I have only recently started my grooming business....only taking a select few clients because I am so close to having my baby...BUT...I have been seeing some of the saddest things. I knew it wouldn't be "fairy tale" where every dog came to me with no more than 6-8 weeks between grooming sessions and they were perfect angels. I mean...I knew that much. and I knew there would be nightmare stories to tell. but it is really making me sad. Maybe I am just hormonal and emotional...but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that i have SUCH a passion for animals and it kills me that people neglect their "babies" like this. last week, I took in a cocker spaniel that needed a total shave down. the mom is having a hard pregnancy and just wanted the hair gone. she told me he was 11 years old, had several surgeries on his ears so he was sensitive there...he has hip issues in the back so he is sensitive there...and he HATES his feet messed with. So I knew it would be a long, hard session to try and shave this dog down. But I did it. OMG....yes...it took me 3.5 hours just to shave him...that doesn't include the bathing and all of the other goodies that come with it. he would NOT let me near his feet. and once I got the hair off of his feet, I could tell why. I would guess he has probably not had his nails clipped in a good couple of years!! NO JOKE!!! they made a complete circle and laid to the side of his toes. this poor baby had to be in so much pain just walking!!! I have never seen a dogs nails that bad. I refused to clip them and suggested she take him to the vet and have it done. He will probably have to be sedated to some degree. He was very aggressive when you come near the feet...and his quicks are probably SOOO long!!! I felt so bad for him!!! now..today..i have this shephard mix that is getting shaved. She is a VERY sweet outside only dog and I don't think there is any hair on her body that is not matted to the skin. seriously. it is really bad. I don't even know if she has any feeling on her body because it HAS to hurt for me to be trying to shave her down. it just has to. but she just stands there perfectly sweet and calm. thankfully she is very passive and is letting me do anything I want...but I want to cry!!!! she has bald spots all over her body, likely from where the hair was so matted that it has just been pulled out one way or another. she has some places where there are sores under that matts!!!! behind her ears and on her chest especially. I am giving her a little break right now, I have the bulk of the hair off and now I just need to even it all up, but this poor baby!! anyway, I am sure with the other groomers on here, this is probably mild in comparison..but for someone who has just joined this field,...I am totally heartbroken. and it makes me want to keep doing it...to help these babies!!!! anyone else care to share some stories???? maybe help me understand what I am getting myself into?? LOL
