| Help! Grooming bands pulling out too much hair Pebbles is losing hair because of her grooming bands. I cut them out and everything but I guess her hair is so fine that it pulls it out... I am using really good grooming bands too. I don't know what to do. Is there any kind of shampoo to help regrowth?? She is getting a little bald spot |

I am thinking of trying some kind of fabric pony holder instead of the rubber grooming bands | |

| I've noticed when I take Bella's hair down she always loses a few strands of hair in the grooming band. I was thinking about using ponytail holders and ordering some of these. Pony Tail Holders : - The Diva-Dog Bowtique Dog Bows Handmade with Love for your Pampered Pet!

| I get those tiny ones at the dollar store and I get like 50 or more for $1.00. They do still pull some of the hair out though. The hair will knot in them if left in for 2 days. I'm a flight attendant and I will put Brooke's hair up and my hubbie won't take it out and when I get back from a trip then I take it out and brush out the knots. I haven't found the perfect solution to this problem either!! If anyone has the perfect hairtie, please let us in on the secret!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The bald spot is from twisting the bands too tight, and too close to the scalp. Joey's breeder said that after you put in the topknot always take a comb and place right under the band to loosen the topknot. You can actually kill the area and no hair will grow if you are not careful.

| I am by no means an expert because I have a male and he has just now started letting me make a top knot. (besides the fact my family thinks boys shouldn't have bows). WHat i have used are the tiny rubber bands that my son got from the orthodontist when he had braces. they are very flexible and you don't need to twist them more than once because they are so small. We seem to have several of these little packages of rubber bands around from his braces days. If you went to a local orthodontist I bet they would sell you a pack. I do know there are different strengths and thicknesses. I think mine are medium. I was also told to take a tiny pair of sissors and cut the band rather than pull it out. Good luck. Cher |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I suppose you could do it that way too, but the way she did it was to place the teeth of a metal comb flat against the scalp in between the band and scalp. Since a metal comb is thick this puts a small area between the band and the scalp, but still looks neat.

| I found some bands I liked so much for Sammy I put them on my website. They are tiny versions of the covered elastics I use in my hair She does get them out but they don't usually take any hair out with them. The regular "elastic" bands are good for under bows but they do rip hair out if left in too long. I am currently re-growing the middle of Sammy's hair where she ripped one of those out. I also find that using detangler spray helps because the smoother it goes in the less likely it is to rip out hair. Barkaholics — Top Knot Bands - Covered

| The key to banding the hair, especially the top knot, is to do it losely and NEVER pull it out...always use band cutting scissors to remove them. Personally I prefer non-latex bands (1/4 inch) that you can buy off of ebay. Latex bands have a very uneven surface and when stretched, causes voids that trap hair leading to breakage/hairloss. The non-latex bands (polyeurathane) retain their smooth texture even when stretched. Good luck! |
