| puppy hair Hi, we recently addopted our 1st yorkie ever. He is 4 3/4 month old. I was wondering when and how I can figgure out if he has a sliky/cottony etc coat. His hair is fairly thick and sticks out all over his body and is not really dull or really shiny. the hair on his stop has started changing color but his black on the rest of his body is still coal black. What grooming should I do for him at his age? thanks, Alastor's mom

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If he mats easily he's a cotton coat, if not it's probably silky, some dogs are a mixture. I recommend weekly bathing followed by a conditioner. I usually check ears and feet pads at this time. The hair grows inside ears and needs to be plucked with your fingers. The top 1/3 of a Yorkies ears are trimmed. Tooth brushing is important too, and should be done three times a week, and I also recommend Petzlife tooth spray or gel to reduce tartar when he gets permanent teeth. Nail clipping is important and there are many articles explaining how to do this correctly. They should be brushed daily. By the way, Welcome to Yorkietalk!
