For those with long coats: Do pee trails work? When we got Osbourne I cut all the hair off his penis thinking it'd be better for him. Then recently I read something about if you leave it long, it will help keep the rest of the hair from getting peed on. Osbourne has a beautiful full coat, but it gets dirty from pee so easily. Does anyone know if keeping his hair long down there helps or are there any other tricks?

What some breeders with Maltese do is wrap the hair from the penis and then put a plastic liner for a baby bottle around it and band that around the hair not the penis, you don't want to put anything around the penis itself you could cut off the circulation. I kept a CH Maltese for a friend of mine, I was worried about that coat and she showed me how they do it and it wasn't bad at all except I just can't explain it I will try to wrap my Maltese boy if I get a chance to tomorrow and get some pics and send you. He still squats like a girl so I haven't started wrapping his but I am sure I will have to soon. It is just so hard for me to explain it in writing. lol Deana Prestigeous

Thanks for the ideas. His hair is still pretty short (probably about an inch) but sounds like the plastic might work in a month or so. And Deana I would love to see a picture if you get one. I think I kinda understand how to do it but a picture is worth a thousand words

Yes, it definitely works! When we trim our boyz we always leave some of the hair...it acts as a funnel and directs the urine stream down to the ground instead of off to the side or onto the belly. We've never had to 'wrap' anyone or use belly bands and you can pick our boyz up without getting soaked!

| My boy lifts his leg and his coat is long. He hasn't had any staining yet and I do leave a tail of hair at the end of his "winky"

I have got to do something like that for my Prize. It is driving me nuts. Of course I just shaved him down there lately. Will need to wait till it grows out again. I thought of just using a clothespin - No, just kidding. I woud never do that. Ouch! T.

Boy dogs aren't the only one with long hair on the er uh sacred part. My girls have "the" longest pubic hairs, and you bed I keep that cut off. I don't like to see the hair stay wet, drip on the floor or stick together. I've had lots of male fosters that I kept clean shaved too.
