| I like the small, scissor like nail trimmers for my babies, and it works on the cat too.

| I have a couple different types but I like the scissor type best, for the pups I use human nail clippers. |

| Wet the hair before trimming the nail I have 3 Yorkies and our groomer trims the older ones, but have had to do our baby's as she's not had all her shots yet and don't want to take her to the groomers quite yet. As a newborn (she's from our litter) I trimmed hers and the 2 boys with human nail clippers and that worked well, but she's 14 weeks now and the nails are harder so the clippers won't work. I bought the small scissors type for "puppies and small dogs" and they work very well. We wet the paw really well, push back the wet hair and it helps us to see the nails really well. My husband helps because it really is a 2 person job with these little wiggle worms. We clip very little, wait a couple days and clip again if we didn't get quite enough the first time. Usually we do 2 paws at a time, let her rest and run for a few minutes, then do the other 2. I also read if your baby has very hard nails massage in some baby oil before trimming and they cut easier. I haven't tried that because Tootsie is so small it hasn't been necessary. Eventually, Tootsie will get her nails trimmed at the groomer also, but at least I can do it if necessary. These little puppy nails are sharp as glass and grow FAST! |

| I have something that works wonders... After paying $45 for each dog to get groomed I learned how with lots of practice. I asked my groomer how she got their nails so short, round and smooth. They lasted for months! She uses an electric grinder/sander. DON'T waste your time buying one at any pet supply store because they cost around $59 & UP I saw it at the store and a lightbulb went on in my head! I have a very, very small hand held rechargable Dremel Drill at home that looks exactly like the pet ones! I paid like $20 at Walmart . Since mine hate the sound. What I have done is cut a small hole in a bath towel and wrap my yorkie like a burrito lol and only put one paw through the hole.He stays still and I sand down his nails and they are smooth and last much longer than clipping them. Dremel rechargable drill around $20 Genie,Cookie,Lola & Angel |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I use a dremel on all of my dogs and it is so much better than cutting the nails. I have a italian leather sofa that they play on with their nice rounded nails. They never scratch or have problems with their nails. They don't mind getting their nails done at all either. I actually bought the dog grinder at Petco as it is a little more heavy duty than a regular small dremel. I only did that after going thru two cheap dremels. I have had this one for over a year and love it. This is so much better than trimming nails with cutters

| I like the idea of using a dremel instead of clipping, but how can you tell how far down to go????
