Make sure you know what you are doing with a regular Dremel. My groomer said he won't use one on any long haired dogs because he saw someone rip the hair and skin off of a dog's toe and paw by getting the hair twisted around the Dremel. That's why I ordered the Peticure, because it has a guard around it. I think you can order a guard for your Dremel from Peticure! Good Luck!

Does anyone know if the newer ones are quieter than the older ones? Teddy is fine with the noise, but Daisy is scared to death of it. I don't think it is that loud but she is terrified. I guess because it is a 'new' sound to her.

I like it so much I would consider ordering a newer one if it was quieter than the one I have.

I keep my girls paw hair trimmed short, so there isn't any long hair on her feet/legs. If she had long hair I would have to do something else all together. Thanks for the concern, I'll check out about ordering the separate guard piece just incase.

So far, Chloe is doing really well with it. She has had fairly long nails, since I've been afraid to clip much (I made her bleed once...bad mommy!) So I've been filing them down now ever few days, trying to get them shorter and shorter. They're looking good so far, and are already at a much better length. She clearly doesn't like the experience, but she stays fairly still and tolerates it.

Default It sucks!

My dogs were terrified of it and it took too long to shorten their nails adequately.

It won't work for the one I have - the minimite dremel. I checked their website last night. But like I mentioned, it works great for me cuz Lucy's hair is short around her paws.

Exclamation

I am not going to be ordering one because I purchased a new electrict file for my nail salon and have passed my older model on to my furbabies.
I have been using this on their nails for years. It works almost the same, but there is no guard, and it cost me $495!!!

I did take a look at the other one that a few people posted a link to. But from my experience doing nails........STONE = HEAT!!! I would stick with the sanding bands. I really did hope I could tell you to go to the beauty supply and purchase your sanding bands much cheaper, but it looks like this takes the larger ones. Give Home Depot or Lowles a try when you need more. Just take a used one and make sure they are the same size, make sure you get MED or FINE. If you have your dogs nails down where you want them and are just doing maintance on them, I would just purchase FIND GRIT.

Some tips:

As they say on the web site, fast short strokes....Do not go slow or stop moving with the sanding band on the nail = HOT HOT HOT

Do not do more than a couple of swipes on the nail with out moving on to another one.

And most important, this product is NOT ment to take long nails and in one sitting make them short. It does not matter if you are clipping or filing....go a little every week till you get them to the lenght that you want them to be.

Mine are so used to having theirs done, they dont even flinch. But they do hate the smell of the nail polish I make them wear

Happy filing,
Kathy-Ut

I have to disagree with you there. I've been using it regularly now on Chloe, and her nails are finally getting to a normal length.

Her nails had been quite long, and so I use it about every 4-5 days for now, until her quick recedes and they are a healthy length. Then I'll go to using it less frequently. She doesn't *like* it, but she sits still for it and tolerates it. That's about all I can ask for!

Default bought just the device for the dremmel

I bought the piece that fits on to your dremmel.
I like it because I can get her hair out of hte way and it doesn't seem to pull her hair in with it. She hate it but I am getting her used to it.
I have cut her too short in the past and I have let her nails grow too long.
so she wiggles like crazy. I have let her get away so I am to blame for the problem with getting it done. Our new dog will hold still to let me do it. I have to watch to make sure I don't go too short.

I needed a new dremmel anyway so I got the dremmel and accessories and it works. I let it buzz around her to let her know it won't hurt her.

I finally got mine and so far it is working well. It is very quiet so it doesn't scare the dogs and like everyone said you just have to do a little at a time so it doesn't get hot.
