| Black around genitals hello. this is my firs post and really the reason i signed up for this site so here goes...... honestly im not sure what kind of yorkie i have....she is small, only about four pounds.....and i think she's a silky coat from what i have read. anyway, the first day i had her i noticed a black circle of what (to me) seems to be dirt around her privates. i took her to the groomer and when i picked her up i noticed right off that the black had gone away some...not all but some. now its even worse than it was then.....granted it has been about three months since i had her groomed.....but i bathe her once or twice a week as needed and this "blackness" just wont seem to go away...... someone told me it was just the pigment in her skin.....but then why does it have a rough feeling to it when i touch it? i have tried everything and cannot remove this, any suggestions? i attached a couple of pics of her....not of the black stuff though....ill try to get some shots of that as well.... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pom has lost a lot of her hair in the back from Cushings disease and I have noticed her private part is black as well. I always had her professionally groomed until she got sick and her hair covered a lot. SHe is snappy so she won't let me take a closer look so I am wondering too.

| There is a vitamin analysis that can be done at some of the major universities that will tell you if your dog is high or low on any vitamins. Little specks that look like dirt around the genitals could be from low zinc, but you would need a vitamin analysis to know for sure....I believe MSU does it, but there may be others...I do not recommend supplementing zinc without vet's approval though.

| Did you ever take your baby to the Vet and see what it was? Murphy had some black spots on his "AREA" as well this year and I took him in to the Vet. It turned out he had a minor Staph infection on his skin. The vet gave me some antibiotics for both pups and it was gone in a few weeks. He said it is HIGHLY contagious through dogs (by the way not the same type of Staph humans get in hospitals) and that he could have gotten it from the park, groomers, vet, etc..... Let us know how your baby is doing?

| well, i have yet to take her to the vet and i feel HORRIBLE about it. the spot is still there but it doesnt seem to affect her at all..... i took some pictures but they came out really bad and you couldnt see it. now she is in heat so i really dont want to bother her privates too much..... i know this sounds bad.....but i probably wont be able to afford a vet until after christmas.....i'm in a pretty rough time. im so worried that her health may dwindle because of my finances! |
