| Do you treat year round for Fleas & Ticks? This may be a dumb question but I recall reading somewhere on here lately where some YT'ers did not treat for fleas & ticks year round. Just wondering what others do.

| I don't. I've never had a problem with fleas. And from what I've been reading about flea treatments, I'm not sure I want to put all that stuff on my girls.

| If you don't treat year round....do you stop when winter arrives? Can fleas and ticks survive outside after the first freeze?

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i don't do flea treatment year round. I stop after november and don't start again till april. However if you are in a warmer climate where the temp fluctuates during the winter months and might get back up into the 50s i'd keep the furkids on it.

| I don't do flea treatments at all. Toto has never had a flea. He is always taken outside on a leash and never allowed to run free in the yard. We live in a subdivision of mostly "older" residents and there are very few dogs in the neighborhood.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I don't treat for either - ever. My babies have never had a problem with fleas or ticks, in fact I have never in my life found a single one of either on them.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | forgot to mention, some warmer climates do not have fleas, ticks, or mosquitoes (heartworm) so really you just have to know your area to decide if you need to continue treatment year round.

| I treat all of my dogs april-november. I use to not give them anything, but we had a bad year for the ticks a couple of years ago and I seen ticks on my pom a few times and we live near the woods and have lots of deer come in the yard. Since I started the meds I haven't seen any on them.

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | I don't treat year round. I stop when the temperatures start dropping and start back when it gets warm again. I've never had a problem by doing it this way. |

| Heartworm was well as flea and tick meds are pesticides. My vets support my decision not to give them year round. I stop using them after the first week of cold temp. i.e. cool during the day and freezing at night. I start back up when the ground is not frozen any longer.

| I don't like putting unnecessary pesticides into Ellie's body, so I only treat for fleas if I see one on her. I gave her heartworm med the other day and will not start back again until around March. We live in Michigan though, so we don't have mosquitos during the winter.

| We have never had fleas, but we have had ticks...we are way in the country with lots of wildlife that come in the yard, so we use Frontline Plus. We use Inceptor once a month for heart worms because I feel I would rather be safe than sorry with that....we used our Frontline dose this month just because it has been in the 70s and ticks are still out....got one off the big dogs the other day! YUCK!
