| new mom to a 7 month old Hi I am about to get my girl who is 7 months old in a week and i have a few questions. first i am told that the current owner has not had a lot of time to train her and she is pooping in her crate where i think she is being left most of the day while current owner is at work( she use to be able to take her to work with her but now can not) so of course how when i get her, how do i stop this from happening? also pet insurance who and where do i get it from? also she needs to be spayed where is a good place and how much should it cost.I am very excited about my new family member and any and all info is helpfull!!!: Last edited by 7montholdgirl; 02-12-2009 at 01:12 AM. Donating YT 30K Club Member | Congratulations! 7 months is a good age to train. If you are going t o be home alot, just keep taking her either outside or to the pee pads depending on how you are going to train her and praise and treats are a must when she goes where she is suppossed to.

| Some of the questions you have posted really need to be put in different sections of the forum. I think you might be able to get more answers to your questions if you do that. Was wondering.....are you using a crate or an ex-pen? If you can't get the pooing under control I would suggest that you use an ex-pen because that way she won't be walking in it. I have a rescue that has never learned to not poo in her ex-pen. She is brain damaged from abuse and I've just learned to accept it. She has a plastic kennel in her ex-pen where she sleeps so that she is not wallowing in the mess. Hate it, but that is the way it is with my Cocoa. Love her no matter what. Good luck.

| With the cost of spaying, you can try calling around a few vet clinics to get a good idea of how much it'll be especially since you'd want to get pre-op bloodwork done to see if surgery's safe for your baby. They generally don't have any issue with giving you a rough estimate. Make sure the anaesthetic they use on your baby will be isoflourine. It is one of the safer options. I would not recommend Guildford Animal Hospital. He may seem friendly and all and he was recommended to me by another yorkie parent but I regret having gone to him at all (of course, that was after a checkup, bloodwork, and dental surgery which I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he had coached one of his young helpers to do the procedure instead of getting it done properly himself since he IS a "nice" guy). Rosie's_Momma on YT lives in the Langley area and has recommended her vet to me: Dr. Jim Snyder at Small Creatures Pet Clinic on 88th. I have not had a chance to pay him a visit since I had gotten another recommendation that was closer to home from another member here. If Richmond isn't too far for you and the Langley one doesn't work out for one reason or another, I would highly recommend Island Veterinary Hospital. I LOVE them. I have nothing bad to say about both of the vets practicing there (they alternate days/shifts). They're located on Westminster Hwy at No.4 Rd. 604.273.3158. They are very reasonably priced for anything you need to have done. After we got our second dental work done by them, our follow up visit a week later was complimentary. As a matter of fact, I had ended up with more than a few "free" consults because of one thing or another. Once you've established a file with them, they do not hesitate to answer your worries over the phone. The doctors themselves call you when it's about more pressing concerns. Some clinics just have their reception do all the contacting and bill you if you want to exchange any word with the vet at all. As for pet insurance, I couldn't find enough information/reviews about claims from companies we have available to us in Canada, so I opted to just keep a savings account just for her. Of course, she managed to deplete it entirely after her first dentals and by her second a month later, it felt like we only had to pay for the one since she took care of the first 1k herself. |

| Welcome to YT! Will you have more time to spend with her, than the current owner? I think one of the biggest thing with training is consistency and not letting them go to long without being taken outside or with access to a pee pad

| I have insurance from PetSecure - they are the main provider of pet insurance in Canada I think.
