| Rex had surgery today LP Rex had his surgery done today at LIV in Plainview by Dr. Marino. It was such a long day for me I cannot imagine how hard it must be for him. Dr. Marino said the surgery went fine and he didn't expect any complications. I can't wait to pick him up on Friday. It is lonely without him! Any suggestions for the recuperation period are appreciated from those of you that have had luxating patella ( and ligament) surgery. Thank you all |

| Glad to hear his surgery went well! I set up an ex-pen instead of a crate. I didn't use their bed because I didn't want them to even step over the edge....instead I folded up a blanket and used that. I gave them enough room to stand and get a drink. The first few days or even longer they have to use a belly strap to help support their weight while walking. I found it to be way too big and instead used a soft chenille scarf. It was longer and easier for me to handle. Make sure he eats before all his medicine to avoid tummy upset. Both mine came home with pain meds, an antibiotic and a morphine patch on their leg. If I can help in any other way, please feel free to pm me. I'll be happy to do anything I can.

| Rex Glad to hear Rex came though surgery so well. When my little one had lp surgery i had one of the wire kennels (she never used it) I flipped it over and filled it with pillows and that was her recuperation space. I would carry it from room to room so she could always see what was going on. Thankfully my sister was staying with me at the time and she was home with her while I was at work. I used a scarf as well to hold her up when she had to go out to potty. As Yorkiemalt said make sure he takes his medicine on a full stomach. Keep his bandages dry, if I was going out for more than an hour I would put a diaper on her so she would'nt get her bandages wet. Oh and peeing and pooping may be delayed due to the surgery so bear that in mind. Keep him as quiet as possible, no jumping or walking except for potty time. Good luck, J

| I know how exhaused you must be. So sorry for you and the little guy having to go through this. Each Doctor discharges differently and each surgery is different so follow his instructions to the T~ My experience was no weight bearing for the first 5 days and ROM 3 times a day 10 reps and then after 4 days 15 reps. Ice the first 48 hours and then warm compresses after that (not wet) After a few days there will be much bruising, which is normal. Crate or expen in the house for two weeks and then just no stairs or running. Good luck and prayers are going out to you and your .

| Thank you all for the suggestions and much needed advice. I am picking him up tomorrow. I have an X pen and a crate as well. I think I will need to carry him from room to room with me also, he is like glue! I won't return to work until Tuesday and I will have a friend come by several times a day. Thanks for the scarf idea to prevent weight bearing-I didn't think of that at all! I believe he will come home with an antibiotic and pain meds. I'll post on Friday after he comes home. Thanks for your support |

| Rex is home and he looks like he's been through a tough few days. He isn't putting any weight on his leg-it looks bruised but clean. Only medicam and antibiotics. I am glad he is home! |
