Default Which Airlines are best for travel with your dog?

I need to book some flights and I have never taken Teddi before. I was wondering if there are some airlines that are better than others?

Plane

The one time we flew with one of our furbrats it was with Delta. The flight was uneventful so all was well

Good luck -- hope you have a GREAT trip.

I have flown northwest and it was great! I was so nervous because after I booked the flight I read so many bad reviews on them but it went perfect. Macy even sat on our laps and her carrier remained on the floor.

Did you all pay for and tell them ahead of time that you were bringing a dog? I mean she is so small and her carrier just looks like a purse....just asking.

Also, did you have to bring health certificates from your vet?

I've only flown American, I understand that Continental has the best fares for dogs.

No, you don't need a health certificate to fly in cabin.....However, you may need one if the state you're flying to requires it.

You do have to call and get a reservation ahead of time because most flights only allow two dogs on the whole plane each flight. But you don't pay for them until you actually check in...

Look up the in cabin pet policies on the particular website and see the measurements they require for the carrier. Even ones that say airline approved still have to fit their requirements and some want different dimensions than others. Lisa, Sukoshi's Mom posted a really helpful post with each airline's carrier requirements. I don't have the link to the post, but I'm sure you could find it with a search.

Default Great experience with AA

We flew American Airlines from Seattle to Dallas,TX round trip. Both ways the staff was absolutley amazing. On the flight out of Seattle the flight attendant at the counter gave us 3 seats since the flight was underbooked, she said if we wanted we could keep our dogs in the seats or have space for them so they don't have to be under the seat. At the airport they were all friendly, all they needed was the vet health certificate.

We had to pay a fee for them both ways but it was well worth it!

One time the guy in front of us sneezed and Lil' Daisy barked at him, eveyone just started laughing saying how cute she was. Beckham slept both ways very calm.

American has always been wonderful....Last year, we had 7 yorkies in cabin...flying from Dallas to NY for the Yorkshire Terrier Nationals and Westminster......the flight attendants went nuts...wanting to hold each of the Yorkies and parading them up and down the isle.

You usually don't need a health cerficate to fly your dog in cabin....it is only dependent on your destination State laws, so it's wise to check.

I have flown with American Airlines and Jet Blue with my pups. Both have been great with no problems. I would definitely recommend booking it ahead of time so that you don't run into problems when you get there as they only allow a certain number on the plane. You will also want to make sure that you get an airline approved carrier that fits their dimensions. Mine is a little larger than most restrictions, but so far I have not had any problems getting it under the seat. While I have never been asked for a health certificate I usually get one before leaving just incase. Would hate to have problems for something so small. Good luck!
