| Shipping my Yorkie Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew how long is the quarantine time for my yorkie if i'm shipping her to Texas to be with my family there? He's going to come from South East Asia. The yorkie I'm shipping would be just around 2 months old by then. If anyone can help me out. It would be very much appreciated. Thanks |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hello. I'm not sure what you mean by "shipping" - do you mean in cargo of a plane? Bc I don't think an 8 week old would survive a trip like that. Or, do you mean on the plane with you?

| Whenever I sell a pup out of state, I fly them personally to their new home. Call the airline to find out their specific regulations, but it usually costs an extra $100 or so and they need to fit under your seat during take off and landing, but you can put the carrier in your lap during the flight. It's a lot less stressful for them. Let us know what you find out... 2 mos is too young to fly cargo. And you will probably need a health certificate. Check with your vet also.

| Here are two websites that should help you with your questions. Obviously, it is different when you are importing a dog into the US rather than just flying from state to state in the US. Good Luck, you have a lot of homework in front of you. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ac/pettravel.html http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/animal.htm

| Do you have any other options? That is a VERY long plane trip for an 8 week old puppy and I'm not sure he/she could survive it.

| @livingdustmops - thanks for the links, they're very useful @drawlins27 - the puppy could stay with me for a while, since I wouldn't be migrating. although i would have to send him on his own eventually as I don't think I'd be able to go with him at once. do you guys think if he flew in the cabin instead of with the cargo, it would be possible for a puppy that age to travel that long? or should we just not risk it? |

You would need to bring: Pee pad (just in case while in airport) Dog food (in case of plane delay) Nutrical Leash / harness / id Water bottle (like a "hamster" water bottle) Wipes (in case he pees/poos or gets sick) Towel (see above) You may want to give Pepto Bismol 1.5 hours ahead of time for his tummy. And you may want to give a bit of Children's Benadryl - BUT HIS WEIGHT MUST BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION BEFORE DOSING THE BENADRYL. Please be careful, these guys are very fragile at these ages.

| The puppy will also need to be current on shots and have a health certificate in order to fly overseas. I would have the dog put in the cabin. I wouldn't fly him till he was 12 to 16 weeks old and only then if someone will be with him to take care of him. If you fly him in the cabin, simply put, he WILL die. |
