| Cheaper alternatives to airline crate? It looks like the only crate that is 18x14x9 is the Sherpa soft-sided one but it's well over $40 and doesn't look like one I will use regularly. Are there any cheaper alternatives or prices? Looking around the $25-$30 range?

| Probably not cheaper, but there are many purse type carriers you can use instead. If you'd use a purse carrier you might want to go that route instead. Personally, I like the Sherpa carrier for air travel as it has more mesh and so is better ventilated than any purse carrier I own. As the dog is supposed to stay in the carrier and under the seat in front of you for the duration of the flight, I value the ventilation over aesthetics.

| Edit: just noticed this is an old thread. Almost a year old! What is up with all the resurfaced old threads?

| I have never done it, but I THINK the airlines (Southwest) offer a cardboard type carrier for on board pets....check into that...they may not do that any more and they may have gone way up on the price of that heavy cardboard pet carrier........ |
