| Plane Hints Zoe and I made our first plane trip together yesterday. We flew on Trans Air, and they wouldn't ever let me take her from under the seat. Many "militant", "No maam, she needs to be comPLETELY zipped in her bag and UNDER the seat!!!!". Well, that ticked her off (ok, it ticked me off, too)! She whined and yelped for the better part of 2 flights, totally 5 hours. I felt so, so bad for her, it was torture. Since it wasn't a planned trip, I hadn't spoken to her vet about solutions. Do any of you have ideas for getting her back to Dallas? The stewardess said Benadryl?

| Unfortunately that is the rule for most airlines. Some flight attendants will look the other way but from a safety standpoint the safest place during flight is zipped and under the sit. You could try going to the bathroom with her. Good luck.

| Remy doesn't do much better. She keeps pushing her head up trying to get out of the bag. I did use resue remedy (got it a gnc) and it helped some. I hope you are having some fun. I love being with my guys but I will say I have to weigh each try on is it best to leave them or take them.. Leaving them at home seams to win a lot

| Go to a vet and have a conversation with them. If she is that upset it might be better if she slept for most of the trip back home. Some vets recommend AceProm and some use Valium (diazepam). Some use benadryl but it may not last the 5 hours -- be sure to tell the vet the length of the flight. Most airlines will not let you take the dog out of the bag and make you keep it zipped up -- they don't want to have to deal with any of the other passengers who may not be as fond of dogs. Sometimes putting their favorite toy in the bag with them helps, even if it squeaks sometimes (usually is not as loud as some kids are on the plane). A friend of mine buys something at Feeders Supply that is suppose to help with calmness when they travel in the car. Good luck.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Honestly? Get a blanket and put her under that. Sit in a window seat, and hope that your row-mates like dogs. I've flown with Thor a few times now, and I'm lucky that he very sanguine about the whole thing. As long as he can see me, he's okay. I've stopped sneaking him out, because while he's okay being IN the bag, he does not like getting BACK into the bag after a taste of freedom. I'd recommend getting her LOTS of exercise the day before; have her pee/poop right before she gets on the plane; and make sure she has a drink of water before getting on the plane. No food. HTH.

| If you have a chance try out the Benadryl first, see what it does for or rather to your dog, some it makes sleepy, some hyper, always there is the dose 1/2 tab per 10lbs and that was what my vet said for Sprocket per his allergies. I did not use drugs when we flew, it was very stressful anyway, see my post OMG A DOG. But we flew US Air, and BTW they were wonderful, back and forth from SanDiego to Phillly, so sorry you got the stew from hell, but after all it it THEIR plane and their problems even if we don't like it. It really does seem unfair, our guys make so little noise, less than other "kids", but as Quicksilver said. a blanket or I wore a long scarf, one of those decorative ones, Sprocket slept under it the whole time, in my lap, slept more than I did! Good Luck

| Most Airlines do not allow dogs out of carrier, but some allow more than others, I know that JetBlue doesn't care much, neither does Southwest Airlines. |

| There is a product you can find at the pet supply stores called "Calming" by Pet Naturals. It has natural products in it and makes him/her to relax and sleep. It works wonderful~! |

| Just Googled for the reviews - looks like it is even more popular than Benadryl. Worth trying. Thanks for the hint, Veggienut! |
