Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | San Diego Dog Friendly Hotels etc Me and hubs want to take the 3 furs to San Diego this summer, to get away from 1000 degree heat here in Phoenix. I've heard SD is super dog friendly, but does anyone know specifics? Like where to stay with dogs, etc? Thanks for any help!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I never had to stay at any hotel since we lived there, but there are dog friendly outdoor malls in Carlsbad and Otay Ranch (down in Chula Vista near the border). I found this online that lists the hotels and attractions where dogs are welcome. DogFriendly.com's City Guide: San Diego, California Which part of SD are you planning on staying in (north or south)? I can steer you towards some nicer areas from that list.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Thank you so much! I'm not even sure which area we're staying in...do you recommend one over the other? We'd love water, charm, historic buildings, good food.

| ...or you and Tony could take a trip together and have family/friends watch the furries for you. I would happily volunteer! |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Ann, I used bringfido.com a lot when I was with hubby driving the semi cross country. It helped a lot when we were stopped for a few days & could enjoy the "sights". Have fun!

| Love, love, love San Diego! We vacationed in San Diego with Armani last year. We stayed at The W San Diego, in the past we stayed at The Westin Gaslamp Quarter which is very centrally located. Most Starwood properties are pet friendly. San Diego is such a pet friendly city they have street poles that dispense poop bags! Enjoy your time in luscious San Diego!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | You definitely can't go wrong staying at The W. Just be aware that Downtown San Diego is like every other downtown, one street will be good and the next one is dangerous. The Marriott on Shelter Island is also pet friendly and on the water. Mission Valley and Fashion Valley are good areas if you aren't sure what you want to do while you are in SD. They are centrally located to most things with all 3 freeways being really close by. The Zoo and Sea World are less than 10 minutes from there (be aware though that neither place has facilities for watching dogs while you visit). Dog Beach is fun, but tends to be an attraction for bigger dogs. Mission Bay has lots of walking trails that leashed dogs are welcome on.

| SD dog hotels Hi: The SD Marriott and Hyatt at Fishermans' village (lovely spot) takes dogs, but the cost may be a bit steep. Also La Quinta hotels everywhere are v. good and do not charge for dogs. Rooms well equipped usually with fridge/microwave etc and you get breakfast. There is a nice LQ in Carlsbad in the quiet south end near the beach, near food places too. Happy traveling! |
