| Crossing thru Canada with Puppy I will taking a trip shortly from Michigan to New York with a 12 week old puppy. Does anyone know the requirements for taking a little one across the border? Is the standard health certificate all that you would need? Thanks!! |

| We went to Canada with our dog once and all we needed was a health certificate... although we did get pulled for a "random" search and I always wondered if the fact that we had a dog increased these chances but it was no big deal either way.

| Last time we went, which was quite some time ago, you had to have proof of shots and particularly rabies. I would check with customs for both directions as each country has different requirements. I assume you are talking about Canada. Who knows, these days they may need a doggy passport.

| Hi, I live in Canada and we travel with our dogs to the States yearly. To bring any dog 3 months old or older into Canada, you just need a rabies certificate. Same thing in the other direction, rabies certificate for dogs 3 months and up. I have never been asked for a health certificate but I guess sometimes they ask, so I always have them. I understand they have to be dated within two weeks. Hope this helps. If they ask for a health certificate (either country) and you don't have one then you have to wait at the border for the customs vet to come and you have to pay some outrageous fee to have the dog examined and clear you. |
