Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | What do you do with your yorkie when you go on a trip? Hello, I'm going on a trip next month for 3 weeks and I am having trouble of what I should do. Is it better to ask relatives/friends or to put your doggies in daycare? I know this all depends on cost, and preference, but what do you all do? I am very protective over my yorkies... The only people I probably trust are the yorkie breeders I got one of my yorkies from because I know they really take good care of their pets, but they have 5 yorkies in their household and I don't want to ask... Well anybody's opinion would help. Whenever I have issues, YT always makes me feel at ease. I've been reading craigslist posts, but people charge 20-30 dollars a day. Is that normal? I would be honored to take care of someone's yorkies.. lol. I wish I had someone I could trust. Too bad their aren't too many YT members from Oahu, HI.

| My dad usually takes care of my babies when I go on vacation. He lives with us anyways so it's not like a complete stranger taking care of them. He knows them and their personalities and he knows how I adore them and so does he! When I've gone on vacation when my girls have puppies my very best friend who has Yorkies takes care of my girls and their babies! She's much better at being attentive to their needs! She's wonderful! So if I lived close to u I would baby sit yours or recomend my friend but we're worlds apart! Lol! I would recomend you ask a really good family member or friend rather than some boarding place where god knows how many dogs have been through there! I'm not knocking those places I just trust family and friends over strangers! Good luck! Aloha!

| Hope you have a wonderful trip. When we go on vacation without the girls, we hire someone to stay at our house. It is expensive, but worth it to me.

| How about if you ask your breeder for their thoughts or suggestions. Then maybe they might offer and you wouldn't have to come right out and ask them and put them on the spot and if they don't offer maybe they could recommend someone or give you other options. Might be worth a shot. We have the same problem but have until Sept. to figure something out. Good luck and hope you have a safe trip. |

| We try to take ours with us when possible! But we are leaving first of March for a weekend away with Scouts and of course no doggies. We have a friend coming to stay at our house for the weekend to take care of our fur babies. THis will be the first time we have left our new Yorkie Rusty. When it was just the bigger dog and cat we would have a friend who is also a pet sitter come take care of them. She charged $20 for the first visit then $12 for each visit after that. So if she came twice in one day it was $32. If you cant find a friend or family member to do it at least get a pet sitter who is licensed and bonded so if anything does go wrong you will be reimbursed!

| I know this will not help you right now, but we are in the process of talking with the pAdmin about getting a forum started on swapping babysitting with other YT members. Here's the link if you want to check it out. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sit...on-thread.html

| yes 20 to 30 dollars a day is normal. i cat sat for a lady and she paid me 25 a day so her babies wouldn't be lonely. but asking another yt'er as stated above is a great idea. b/c who wouldn't want more yorkies..even if on a short term bases. |

| I usually try to have friends stay with Duke. If it's a long time then I try to have 2 people split up the time if possible. I looked into boarding but just was not comfortable with any of the ones I saw. If you can't find friends/relatives, ask the breeder for recomendations.

| When we travel all of ours go with us and it's really no trouble but I know it depends on what kind of trip you're taking and where you'll be staying. |

| When we travel and can't take them with (rare, but has happened), we ask a trusted friend to house-sit. We stock up the fridge and freezer and numbers to our vet and the emergency vet as well as directions. I also make sure they know feeding instructions, etc. (they humor me and pretend to listen, but I write it down just in case) and off we go. We do give the friend some cash (1/2 before we leave and 1/2 when we get home), but that may be something optional. |

| We have only been on one trip since we got our Yorkie and my daughter and son-in-law kept her at their house. They have a ShihTsu and a poodle mix and Abby and the Shih Tsu love to play together. I packed all kinds of treats and toys and told my daughter how to mix her food so she would eat, left all kinds of written instructions. Wouldn't you know it, she ate the adult dog food my daughter gives her dogs, no problem. My daughter sent a little bag home with her and of course she wouldn't touch it at home! When we had our rat terrier we left her a couple of times with a lady from church. She has 4 kids, they all loved Peanut. They let Peanut have the run of the house and only put her in her crate to sleep at night. They even took her riding in the car. She only charged $10 a day, I was so lucky to have her. I haven't taken Abby on a trip yet, but maybe we will this summer. She is getting pretty dependable going potty. The only thing I worry about is that dog friendly hotel rooms have had all kinds of dogs staying there, I worry about other dogs' hair and stuff. |

| Previously when I had 1 yorkie only my mom would always take her. I am not sure about two yorkies now, she may or may not watch my two yorkies now. She has a yorkie and a boxer. and as for my bull terrier I think I may have a friend who would watch her or my FIL. Tough call for me, 3 dogs, doggie daycare would be way too expensive. |

| Well, if you're leaving for 3 weeks, daycare or boarding may not be an option. Definitely stay away from craigslist, though. I'm sure there are legit people on the site, but you never know if you'll ever see your dog again. Many are scammers, you can't trust anyone these days. I've heard some terrible stories! Yikes! I usually always take our girls with me when I travel, but in cases when I couldn't, I also had a friend come by and take care of them for us. And someone had suggested talking to your breeder for advice, that's a wonderful option I think. Maybe they will just offer to babysit! Who knows, it's definitely worth a shot. And if I lived closeby, I'd watch your baby for you.
