| Desperately need you now: Height limit of my Yorkie for carry-on carrier?? Are my babies bigger than ALL of your babies (those who have taken your babies on a plane with you), or am I imagining things? I'm going out of my mind. Please help, I'm soooo confused. You see...I NEED to travel to Florida with my babies as I trust no one with their care (kennels, pet sitters, ect). I see that airlines have changed the rules as far as the size of the carry-on, which is now at 9" for the tallest I have heard of. My boy has long legs and I think he's about 14" from floor to head (?), and my girl is chubby at 11.5 lbs., though she has shorter legs, she's also about the same length. They are both long from head to tail about 23." So, my question for those of you who have travel with your babies, what size carry-on did you use? I can't send them in crates as cargo, just the thought makes me nervous. Can't go by car, we did that and they hated it so much that my girl refused to get in a car and would shake uncontrollably for days when I had to take her out, like to the vet's. What can I do? Our trip to Florida is not a vacation for us, it's a necessity and living them behind is not an option. We have no family or friends that can take care of them for us. Any advise |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Are you trying to get them in the same carrier? That may be difficult. If you can get them to lay down and kind of curl up they may fit. A soft carrier would be the best.

| I would try the Sherpa - it fits under any airline seat- my big guy loves his and don't put them together. DO NOT put them in cargo if you don't have to- you can bring them to Petco and see how they fit in the sherpa- I'm sure they will be great!!! Keep us posted!!! |

| Thank you both Quote:
No, I wouldn't put them in cargo! Unless I absolutely had to and even then, only if I can go in cargo right along with them. I won't put them together, they wouldn't fit and besides, the practical jokes they play on each other I have to keep an eye on them. My boy loves to bite my girl in the neck and hang from there or grab hold of her tail and try to swing her around (he can't, she's too heavy for him, but he still gives it a shot) and my girl seats square on my boy's face. He's only 6 lbs. and she's almost 12 lbs. funny to watch but they can hurt each other.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Have you checked the airline website - they usually post the requirements for on board kennel size. It does need to sit beneath the seat. Sometimes the measurements are different if you use soft side versus hard crate. the height is most restrictive as you can imagine. Just look at the distance to the underside of the seat and that is the height you have to work with. Not probably more than 12 " I travelled with my Razz in a purse type carrier. It was great easy to sling over my shoulder and fit under the seat. It wasn't more than 10" high and about 14" long. Gail in ONtario |

| Sherpa Delta Air Deluxe Pet carrier. There's an advertising photo for this carrier at the Petco website with a Yorkie that doesn't look like she would fit 'comfortably' inside. That's how my little ones would look if they were sitting in front of it. What about the 'must be able to stand and turn comfortably inside' the carrier? It seems small to me. Then there's a review about a 13# dog, which states that it worked well. I'm having such a hard time with this. I took my little ones to PetSmart and had them try out all the carriers they had for travel and my little ones didn't look comfortable in any of them. The carriers were of about the same size as this one in the advertisement (10.5"). I haven't been able to measure my little ones, it's hard, they keep trying to run away with the measuring tape, but I think they're about 14" floor to half way up the tip of their ears. |

| How long does it take you? Quote:
We stayed in a pet friendly hotel, right in between the two states. My pups couldn't sleep, they kept sniffing everywhere and barking. My husband had to take them out to the truck and try to sleep there with them. We barely got any sleep, then we resumed our trip at about 6 am. When we got to our destination at about midnight, we were so exhausted and disgusted, we swore never to do that again. On our way back, half way through our trip, our little girl freaked out . She started shaking and wanted nothing but to be held. We thought she had to potty every time, so we made several stops, but that wasn't why she wanted out. We noticed that she would calm down every time she was out of the car. After that experience, our little girl didn't want to get in the car again. I had to take her out (while she shook) for tiny rides around the block and bring her right back home (several times), so that she would know that we were NOT going on a long trip. Even if I were up to taking that long trip again, I don't think that our babies would/could handle it well and that scares me---taking that chance. We even thought about buying or renting an RV to make it easier on them and us, but that's not possible for many reasons. How did you manage it?

| I don't know if you can take two alone. Sherpa is a good idea. If you don't have any luck you may try the cat section. Or maybe a crate with a gate that opens on top too. These are great for flying because you can see them when you pull them out from under your seat. You may consider talking to your vet about medication. |

| Not flying alone Quote:
It is a bit uncomfortable. I was looking for something that would give my little ones at least 1" clearance at the top of their heads. No dogs in the videos had any clearance at all, in fact, they had to hunch a bit. Yeah, I think the Sherpa will work. Thanks. Oh, the vets said no to the meds. and explained why, which I understand and second the decision on not to give it to my little ones
