| Destination - Brazil Hi there, I will be traveling with my little one on April 2 from NYC to Brazil. The flight is actually long, about 10 hours. I will be flying with American Airlines and to South America they do not allow pets inside the cabin. Therefore Luc will be flying as a checked pet. Any suggestions on what to feed him before the flight? I am concerned about Hypoglycemia. And also, should I put a doggie diaper on him? When the breeder shipped him to me from the midwest, he arrived with poop and pee all over him, that one bath was not enough to make him smell nice. any suggestions will be appreciated it. |

| That is a very long flight for your little one to be in a bag , under a seat for 10 hours!!! I will never, ever bring my Harlee on a plane again...She had such anxiety last time from Jersey to Az that she scratched holes in the bag...I took her out and was told to put her back ! She kept panting and her tongue was purple...She was going to have a heart-attack...I had given her rescue remedy and it didn't work....A dog therapist happened to be on the flight with her husband , who was a doctor and suggested a couple drops of Jack Daniels, go figure! They let her stay on my lap and after fighting rest,(about a hour) she finally laid down (night flight) ....It was a nightmare, she will always have her little paws on the ground and if I have to travel, she will stay with someone I trust...It's not worth it, they would rather be in their comfort zone, at home....I hope you reconsider taking your baby..

| He will have to be in the cargo area. They do not allow him to fly inside the cabin with me. (the flight should be for about 8-9 hours, my mistake for writing 10 hours before, I forgot about the time difference between NYC and Brazil). If I had someone to leave him with I would but unfortunately I don't. None of my friends have dogs and most buildings in NYC do not allow pets. So Im stuck! |

| How did your little guy do? Hi, I'm bringing my pups from Brazil to the US on American and I'm faced with the same problem. How did your little guy make the trip? |

| I've never been to Brazil (but it's a place I'd love to go). I have flown internationally and checked a dog into cargo though with British Airways. I was allowed to attach a bowl to the inside of the front door of the crate (so it's fillable from the outside) and the crew added water once on board. I also lined the crate with pads and put an old t-shirt in there too, and I hid milkbones inside the t-shirt, so I knew she'd have something to munch on if she was hungry during the flight.

| How big was the dog you placed in cargo? Two of my girls are pretty big, around 7 lbs, but one is pretty tiny, around 3lbs. I'm worried cargo is going to be too cold, well for all of them, but especially for the little one. |

They usually won't allow you to fly your pet in cargo during extreme heat or cold. But I can't speak to any others as I've only ever put pets into cargo with British Airways, no other airline.

| I would get papers from a psychologist saying that your dog is a emotional support dog. With this paper you can find with your baby in the cabin. I went to Brazil last year with my yorkie in my lap all the flight. I flow with AA.

| I wasn't worried about it being too cold on the ground, I was worried about it being too cold in cargo mid-flight. I mean they keep the cabin pretty darn cold and I imagine cargo isn't going to be any warmer. I am going to crate two in one, and one in another. I hope they stay warm. I called AA and asked about service dogs in the cabin and they told me the only exceptions for this route are seeing and hearing dogs and that emotional support dogs can't go in the cabin. I tried. Thanks for all your help! |
