Default I've always wondered about this....

How do celebs take their dogs EVERYWHERE? I mean, yeah....you can take them from most states to another state without a HUGE hassle, but what about going from one country to another? I ran across this today and thought it might come in handy sometime for somebody~

I'd still like to know who a certain young lady can take her dog to Hawaii and not go thru any quarantine? If we go we would have to leave our girls at home and have them kenneled. Doesn't seem fair.

Who gets to do that? They have eased the quarantine law there a lot; you just need to have all the vaccinations, shots, microchip, vet check and documentation. They don't have to stay in quarantine anymore (if you're coming from the continental US).

My husband had called an airline and was asking some questions about bringing two of the girls with us and the guy told my husband that there is a 5 week quarantine in Hawaii.

I was referring to Paris Hilton.

That is the case for people that don't want to go through the whole process of getting everything in order to do a 'Direct Release' - There is a Check List on the Dept. of Agriculture for Hawaii. I don't remember the whole thing (my sister has brought 2 dogs in via direct release) - but they have to be microchipped, they have to have 2 sets of rabies shot within a certain time frame, they have to get this blood test done, that the results take 120 days, and then they are allowed into Hawaii, they have to have a health cert. within 10 or 14 days of arrival, you have to pay about $160 +/- and you have to send all this stuff to them in advance. Then they enter it all into their system and tell you that you have everything in order. The pets must fly in cargo and the airline transports them directly to the office of agriculture, where they are examined by a Vet and then released to you. It takes about 45 mins once you are off the plane. That's in Honolulu.

You can also do this on other Islands (that are permitted by DOA). You still have to go through everything on the checklist and you still have to send all the paperwork to the DOA, but once approved, they allow you to set up having your Vet meet you at the 'other island' airport to check the pet and you over.

It is still a process, b/c you need that blood test done and it take 120 days to be approved, but once approved it is good for either 2 or 3 yrs and then all you have to do is make sure everything else on the check list is in order.

And they can fly in cabin on the way back to the mainland. Hopefully, things will ease up even more in the near future. My dad lives on the Big Island and I'm not going there til the dogs can fly in the cabin with us. Period. Well, unless I have to go over by myself in some emergency

Your welcome.

My sister actually did it 3 times. Once to bring her first one in the first time, then she flew back to AZ with Lulu (in the cabin, as they are allowed when leaving Hawaii) - and then she had to do it for her second one to enter and she has to get all the paperwork organized to bring her first one back in again. It is a process and can get costly. Ontop of the DOA fee, the airline charges $175 each dog too
