no they don't really care what size pet carryon you have as long as it does not stand out when they go around to check everyone before take off . . .I have the sherpa and because it is not stiff, fits so well under the seat . . of course I try to sneak her out if no one is looking although she just goes to sleep the entire time

I just flew today on continental. I have an approved carrier-the sherpa one-and it does fit under the seat but not if you are flying one of the embrear jets with one seat and only 2 on the other side. Don't sit on the A side or it won't fit under the seat.
Also, it just depends on the flight attendant. I fly often with my dog and today no one was sitting next to me and she let me take her out of the carrier and hold her on my lap. Other times they make me leave her in there the entire time.
Once I was asked for my paperwork and mostly they do not but I would have the health certificate, etc. just in case.
Good luck!

We had to slip our empty carrier into this 'box' to make sure the dimensions were correct. The Sherpa is soft sided so you can smoosh it in almost anything when it is empty.

If they refused to let me take Zoe out, I would still do it and keep her under my shirt~! She is so still and quiet, a blanket would hide her on my lap.

I guess I am just a rebel.

I am so glad for this site!! We are going to be flying soon with our furbaby and I was getting nervous on what type of bag to use. I will research the Sherpa as well. Thanks.

I have the sherpa on wheels and really like it. I was afraid it would be too tall because of the wheels, but it smashs a bit when needed. I fly express jet quite a bit too and have not had any problems. I did have on flight attendent tell me that the dog had to stay in the carrier the whole trip, even though no one was sitting around me. So I asked if the carrier could be put into the empty seat. (the heater was on the floor and I was afraid the dog would get too hot.) She agreed to that.

Take a pee pad with you. If there is a family bathroom, you can go in there and shut to door, let the dog out while you attend to your business. I usually have a small metal dog dish I take too for water.

Have been looking for nutrical in sample sizes to take with me, but have not found where to get them yet. The regular tubes are 4.25 oz, so they are above the 3oz limit. I have one that is about empty that I am going to take with me this next trip.
