Help my Yorkies are peeing on my furniture!

I have 3 yorkies, 2 females and 1 male. They keep peeing on my couches, the throw pillows and any throw blankets that may have been left out.

I've shampooed the couches, washed the pillows and blankets, used enzyme cleaners on the spots, I should buy stock in Febreze. I am so ashamed to have friends over to sit on my sofa. I don't want to get a new one until I break them of this (who wants to spend the $$ on a new couch only to have their babies pee on it again).

What to do?

I don't have any answers but I'm interested in the responses you get. I have covers over my furniture and sometimes catch them hiking on the bottom of the covers where they touch the floor, and also sometimes they hike on the floor and the foot of my bed. It's soooo frustrating. They are potty pad trained and go outside, I was thinking this was just a 'con' of having potty pad trained dogs, they sometimes mistake other things for potty pads and hiking posts.

I would not allow them out of a confined area unless you are able to supervise them 100%.

Are they potty trained besides going in these spots?

If it's being done by a male I would say it's marking. Even at times if they are neutered they will mark if you had let them get those hormones going and had waited to neuter them fairly late. I have heard that females can also be markers.

I feel your pain. That is horrible that they do that on the sofa. I would keep them off of any furniture until they learn to not do that.

My male is neutered. He was 1 year old when I had him neutered.
One female is 1 year old and not spayed. One female is 8 and is spayed. I'm not sure how old she was when she was spayed as I adopted her as an adult dog.

All dogs are trained to go outside and rarely have potty accidents in the house, on the floor. Once in a while they'll poopy in the house, but have no special place. Sometimes it's in the bathroom. Sometimes it's in my living room or kitchen.

When they pee on the couch, it's on the cushions where we sit or the throw pillows. I've tried to make a habit to not leave any blankets out because they will go in/on those. I don't see them do it, but I smell it. It's not like they're hiking their leg on the bottom of the couch. The older female started doing it a few months after we adopted her and now they all do it. They are usually kept in kennels when we're not home and generally they stay in whatever room we're in at all times. But it's kind of nasty to sit in a wet spot on the couch. Not to mention laying down to take a snooze and smelling old dried dog urine because you missed a spot.

I would diaper them and belly band them and keep them that way until they stop this behavior. Maybe get new furniture and start your potty training again from scratch and never let them free unless they are covered.

I was getting so frustrated with Teddy and his marking until finally I decided that I would just BB him so he could be free and I wouldn't have to be mad at him all the time. I notice he goes in spurts. He was marking like crazy I put on his BB every minute that he was not in bed which is just at night since I am home all day. I kept that up until I noticed that he stopped wetting the bands so I thought I would try him without the BB and things have been going great! No marking for a couple of weeks...until the last couple of days so I think tomorrow I will start with the BB again for awhile.

Not tryin to hijack the thread, but i'm thinking of getting new furniture too, and I wondered if leather furniture would be easier to clean for those of us who have pee crazy puppies. I wondered if it soaks in as much as regular fabric or if it's easier to wipe off.

I'm watching your thread for responses as well. Coby is working on potty training. And, even though he HATES the belly bands, he has to wear one when he's running around. Bad habits are hard to break.

To Paulapoo - I'm also anxious to see your answers. I would think that leather wouldn't be as absorbant, but once it's stained, I would think it would be harder to clean. Plus I thought I read that real animal leather attracted the dogs to pee or chew too much (which is why most pet carriers are not made of real leather).

I've tried the diapers on the girls. Julia (the younger of the 2) really walks funny when hers is on, but I guess she'll just have to get used to it.

I've read other threads about the belly bands. Guess my little Jig is gonna have to be banded........

I just can't have this anymore and I want so much to let them be free in the house whether I'm home or not. They've done so well with training otherwise.

I have leather, they don't chew it and don't pee on it. I do use a leather cleaner/conditioner every few months, perhaps they don't like the smell.

I use a spray enzyme cleaner like "Nature's Miracle" or other name brand on the furniture and floors in the event of accidents on the floors. With the pillows and blankets, I've just been putting them in the washing machine. I use 20 Mule Team Borax as a laundry additive and baking soda if there's a bad smell, Downey is standard with each wash.

Even when there hasn't been an accident, I use febreze sometimes on my furniture. What can I say, I'm funny about odors in my house and on my things.

Diapers for the girls, belly band for the boys until you can trust them on the furniture. It is an ongoing problem, and they are attracted by the smell even though you go through great lengths to clean and eradicate. Warmly, Deborah

when my toby makes a mistake on the floor or on a rug ,i mix water and vinegar to clean it up with. it seems to do pretty well so far.

i don't allow my 2 on my couch cause it is fabric....they are allowed on the upholstered chair but i have a cheap throw on it. but to be honest they don't go in the house. i did have a episode with my gigi lately but she was ill.
