potty issues

Bailey is almost 2 years old and he still has potty behavioral issues. He still will pee or go hide and poop places in the house! It drives me nuts. Does anyone else have this problem? It's not that he can't hold it, because when I'm at work I babygate him in the kitchen and he does just fine and doesn't go. But if he's playing with our other dog, running around then he'll just dribble all over the carpet! He knows to ring the bells on the door to go outside, but sometimes I think he doesn't like going outside to potty because he's too much of an indoor dog. Am I the only one out there?

No you're not alone. Piper is 4 and still has accidents. He knows to go outside, but sometimes he's just to lazy. He also hates getting his feet wet on the grass.

Oh my gosh that's exactly how Bailey is! He HATES getting his feet wet so he goes potty on the sidewalk instead

The getting the feet wet is a BIG issue. I can count on her using the livingroom/diningroom carpet if it rains. She is six. Oh, but she will go in a huge snow drift though.

Just when I think Sadie (who's 16 months old) is finally completely trained, she has an "accident" (and I use the term loosely). I can always tell when she's made a "mistake" just by the way she acts so guilty - it's a riot to watch her sneaking around. It's soooo hard to get mad at her. For the most part though, she's 95% potty pad trained. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

But I went into Yorkie ownership with my eyes wide open - everything I had ever read about them said they're very difficult to potty train. I guess all of their positive attributes make up for this one little issue.

I too read that yorkie's are very hard to train and that some never become 100% potty trained. Bailey also likes to use to living/dining room carpet as his toilet. He does little "burn outs" when he's down. And I can always tell if he has gone upstairs because it will be very quiet for awhile and he will try sneaking back downstairs with his head held down because he knows he is in trouble and should be ashamed. I swear they're smarter then we think....I think he thinks he's the pack leader and owns me.

My Jack is 6 almost 7 years old, he is completely potty trained but if we leave out side too long or we are away and he is in his crate he will go potty even when he doesn't want to. He has been spayed and still acts like he is marking his territory. Every leg of furniture and every corner in my house has tinkles on it. YUCK!! Does anyone have any advice. I also have a new baby 5 months old, that is starting to crawl, and I don't want her on the floor with this problem but... Any help would be great!!!

WOW!!! IM SCARED GUYS! Meka's only 6 mo's, and already my husband "knows" that she'll never get the potty training thing. Of course, I am hopeful she will and keep telling him that by the time she's 1 yr old - she'll be a lot better. However, you guys arent giving me much hope... Why is it that they have this problem? I've never heard of any other breed having such a problem with accidents!?! Is it all small dogs/house dogs? Please advise ?!?

I have no idea why these dogs have such a hard time with this. Like I said before Jack is completely potty trained. He will let is know when he has to go potty, he will hold it until he gets let outside, but if we have ticked him off in some way he will just tinkle just a little bit, its never a bladder full, just a few tinkles. Never have seen this roblem with dogs before.

I swear they know they're not supposed to do it....I think it's "little man syndrome". I can just count on cleaning up pee or poop almost daily....sad isn't it.

Kobe is my second Yorkie & He's 4 yrs old. He loves getting wet and dirty (he's a cow dog) & always goes to the door when he has to go-but he marks everything-still. And he has taken up pooping on the living room carpet, just for the heck of it.
I know when I see him walking into the tv room & he has his head down-there will be a mess to clean up.
He knows what he is doing and it drives me nuts.

My first Yorkie would not go out if the weather was not to his liking, lol. If it looked like it would rain-he would pee inside the doggie door & poop in front of the toilet.
I swear, Yorkies are the smartest of dogs & they just do it cause they can.
I gets frustrating though....

WOW, I kinda feel bad now. I huff and puff quitely while cleaning Meeko's over-flow. You see, Meeko is definately 100% trained. He is crated during the day (or anytime we leave the house). He NEVER goes potty in his "room". We kept him on a strict schedule of always making him go potty as soon as he gets out. Usually, he will run around like a mad man for about 2 or 3 minutes but then runs directly to his pad. He actually has us trained as well. ANYTIME he "goes", he will come to tell us literally. He will either paw at one of us or he will do this little sneezy thing to get your attention. This all means, "hey, I did something good. Go see! and give me a carrot!" He also knows that the deal is, we have to SEE it on the pad. This is because sometimes Mr. Meeko tries to play you into thinking he did something and should receive a carrot. Most of the time, he will follow us to the pad to double check for himself. Although sometimes he will just go ahead to the kitchen rug and wait for us to give him his carrot. By the way, he only gets carrots when he goes on his pad. I give him other goodies as treats for all other things.
Here is our only problem with Meeko's potty habits... he sometimes hikes his leg to much and misses the pad. You can't get mad at him cause he did go to the pad and he doesn't realize that he has missed. I don't know what to do about this. Its driving me crazy. I am trying to invent something that gives him more of a border guideline. He also starts going poo on his pad but spins around so much that he begins to wander off of it just as things fall to the floor. So in this case, "things" are not exactly ON the pad but just a few inches off.

Oh, Meeko will be 2 on the 24th of this month.

I'm not sure I can be much of a help on the hiking of the leg part (because I have a little girl) but I have seen pictures where people have put a potty pad around something standing up like a paper towel holder and put that on the pad so they will aim for that. It may also help to put a belly band on your boys that like to mark.

With pooing off the pad, you could put the pad in a container so they know when they're off of it cause they would have to literally step out. We use a washing machine tray and tape down paper in it (she was already used to going on paper so I figured why change that?). Below is a picture if that helps. (Haha! I caught her going! What do all of you guys think of belly bands for boys? I'm thinking of trying one on Bailey seeing that he can't stop peeing everywhere! Now that the weather is becoming rainy and cold he really isn't going to want and go outside
