Default Help! How to stop male pups from hiking leg to pee inside on furniture and doorways

My newest baby, BoBo, is a 12 week old male and I have had him 2 weeks. He was doing pretty good with peeing on the puppy pads but this week has started hiking his leg to pee on the doorways or furniture or just the wall. He will even do it near the pad but onto a wall. How can I stop this? It seems like he is doing the natural "boy thing" by hiking his leg, but I don't know how to get him to go just on the pad. I have tried to think what I can put onto the pad that is raised so he will hopefully make that his mark.

It is not easily a matter of me taking him outside, as I am confined to a wheelchair and can't chase after him in the even he doesn't come back when called, and my yard is not fenced in.

I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks.

12 weeks is very young to start lifting their leg to pee, most don't start that until they reach puberty at around 7 or 8 months. Are you sure he is only 12 weeks.

Getting him neutered might help, but he is too young for that. so I guess just scold him hopefully he will quit.

Thanks for your quick replies......and yes, I am sure BoBo is just 12 weeks as I got him from a breeder I know (and knew when he was born). I thought it really odd myself that he suddenly just started hiking the leg to pee when he was squatting (and he still does squat sometimes, just not most of the time). Not sure if having 2 other female dogs in the house would cause him to do it at this young age or not.

A question about the belly bands. Although that will help in keeping pee off the furniture, does it mean he will always need to wear them when inside??

Belly bands are great! When mine has his belly band on....he doesn't even try to lift his leg, so it is always dry. It has really helped, and I don't mind keeping it on him all the time inside....he doesn't seem to mind either.

Default bands

What you have to do is stop the behavior..when he pees, he leaves a scent that draws him back to repeat this behavior...it does not take long for areas to get "scented" to his liking. He can wear it indoors and take it off outdoors..
I have had male pups as young as 8 weeks start lifting they legs..

i am having the same problem with lifting off the leg and missing most of the pads but hitting the wall and coating the floor and baseboards with pee. I know it's seeping through the cracks between the wall and the baseboards and we really will not be able to get it cleaned in there. help, is belly bands the only way out before neutering? My harlem is 6 months old and I want to get him neutered but I live in another state and will not be able to get him there until probably Thanksgiving and even still, it's no guarantee-my fiance wants to put up heavy plastic on the wall but I'm afraid he will try to eat or shred it and choke to death!

My Winstin was born June 10 and I have had him three weeks tomorrow. He has been lifting his leg for as long as I have owned him. He hardly ever squats. However, he is potting breaking easier than my female big dogs. He has had very few accidents in the house. I have never been a fan of puppy pads with any of my dogs, even though my mom swears by them.
Make sure you are cleaning the pee up with something that takes the odor out. I bought some at one of our pet stores. It will keep him from going back to pee in same spot. Otherwise he can find it even if you can not smell it. Someone I met actually litter box trained her Yorkie. May be an idea since it is hard for you to get him out. Best wishes with him.

Default lifting leg is normal

Tobey started lifting his leg a few weeks after we got him and we got him VERY young like 7 weeks (didn't know any better). He is potty pad trained 100%. But I had to work very hard for the first 3-4 weeks we had him on the potty training. He lifts his leg on the pad, so i tape one pad a few inches up the wall, and put another on top of that but completely on the floor. it works for us!

I'd keep the belly band on him and if he does manage to sprinkle make sure you spray it with a special spray to get the smell out for good.

I trained my Wynstn to go on pee pads also, but he was soon hiking on the refrig and the stove, as that is where he and my other Yorkie are locked when we are gone, in the kitchen. Some one told me to get a 2 liter pop bottle fill with water and place a pee pad over it with a rubber band and sit it on top of the pee pad, it is like their little tree. I cut one pee pad in half for this. I get miy pee pads from Sam's Club. They are the pads you use to put on a bed for adults or children. They work great!

Windsor is almost 2 and a half years old and was recently neutered. He ended up being a leg lifter and had to wear belly bands in the house. Thank goodness since his neuter he has quit marking so we've not had to use the belly bands anymore. A lot of people told me "Once he starts marking he'll never stop even though you have him fixed". Glad they weren't right!

Default What does a BELLY BAND exactly do???

Hello there,

I have a question about those belly bands.

What does it exactly do? How does my male yorkie go pee if he has this on?

My vet has recommended that my Murphy be fixed before he starts the *bad Lifting of the leg* I talked about it but it seems so dangerous to me at this moment. My Murphy is 3lbs 7ozs and is 6 months old. I am not sure about it.

the breeder told me that he could still lift and pee even after the operation, there is no guarantees.

Any one experience this sort of thing?

Thanks
Katharine
