Default When To Start Letting Them Have Free Roam?

Just wondering when you all trusted your yorkies to have free roam of your house (meaning allowing them to walk around to most rooms without you constantly supervising them)? Sometimes you think they're potty trained..and they're not Those little stinkers. Or, do some of you never even let your older yorkies have free roam at all?

All my adults are everywhere. I don't let any of my babies roam until I know that will not chew on wires or get into anything that could hurt them. That is not usually until they are at least 6 months old. I am a crate lover. The ones that don't sleep with me will get in their crates when they are ready for bed.

How are they in the potty training? Do your adults still have accidents every once in awhile or is that a rarity? It seems I think Luigi is potty trained, but I still see him sniffing around when I let him out, as if he's going to pee. Heh..he's still a puppy though, gotta give it time. Just wondering what others have experienced down the road

I let Venus roam free, once I knew she was 100% in the uncarpeted areas, and AFTER I put ceramic where carpet was in the living room and hall.

I'd made several attempts before I removed the carpet, but she always peed in 2-3 spots on the carpet. Gave up, got a baby gate and kept her in the kitchen, till carpet was GONE!

I pretty much let Gracie have free run from day one, as long as I was home. I treated the cords so she would not chew on them. In the young days, she stayed with me on a leash so I could take her potty when she started giving the signal. I still don't let her have free run when I am not home.

When we first got her, we'd supervise her, and usually have her in one room. But now, we moved into a house, and oddly enough, she's allowed to go EVERYWHERE!! the whole place is pretty much baby proofed, so we are totally fine with her to be free!! but when she isn't around us for a llong time, we have to hunt her down. when they are quiet, out of sight, then something is definitely UP!

its an all natural bitter tasting spray, i would guess the equivalent to a lime in taste, everyone recommended it to me and it works like charm, can find it in petsmart or any pet store

I let my winston roam free when we're home. I used to put him in his play area in the mornings once he was awake, but lately I've been letting him run around and play with my cats so that he could get out some energy before work. I just have to keep ALL toilet paper / paper towel products out of his reach because he rips them to shreds!

we started leaving Bridget out when she was probably a year and a half. When we knew she could be trusted pottywise and not to chew anything up.

Bella will probably be the same. Right now, even as good as she is with her potty pads, she still chews on everything! It's just not safe for her or the house.

When I brought Wickett home he had free roam of the tiled areas of the house (everything but the bedrooms). If we left, we'd put him in his playpen which he wasn't too happy about. 2 weeks ago I experimented and left him loose in the house and went out for about 2 hours or so. When I came back. everything was FINE! No potty surprises or chewed furniture. He behaved. So now he's always got free roam.

As for the carpeted rooms....just this weekend I started experimenting with letting him get on the carpet more. He gets really hyper and runs around, I think because he new the carpet was off limits before. So far so good, but I watch him like a hawk because he likes to pee on carpet.
