Default Peeing in crate!

I never leave Bella locked up for more than 4 hours. I get up in the middle of the night to take her out, make sure she pees before we put her in her crate, yet she still manages to pee while in there. I have more than half the crate blocked off so she only has room to stand, lay down, and turn around. I thought dogs wont pee where they lay? What can I do to stop this!!

I think patience is the key here. How old is your girl? Yorkies all have really small bladders especially those in the young puppy stage. My Rusty is 12 weeks old and can hold for 8 hours without having to relieve himself, but he has had a share of a few accidents in his crate during the 4 weeks I've had him for. 1 time he peed in his crate because I think it was due to his new living environment (wk 8). Ever since then, he has kept his crate clean! Don't forget to wash the crate.. Eliminating the mess and odor is a must otherwise Bella will be relieving herself again and again.

Before Rusty sleeps, I usually take the water bowl away from him 1-1.5hrs before he needs to go to sleep. This will minimize his water intake and will help maintain that bladder size to a minimum. However, I do feed him a few kibbles right before he sleeps just to make sure he doesn't get hypoglycemia while I'm knocked out on my own bed.

I'm a guy who just turned 23 so you might want to wait for the more experienced yorkie owners/breeders to chime in. They've always helped me when I was in need. A helpful YT bunch

^Thanks for the reply. Bella will be 12 weeks this coming Wednesday. I do take her water away from her 1 hr before she goes in her crate, if all possible. I guess patienence is the key, I just didnt think she would pee in her crate, since that is where she sleeps.

I have never had this problem but, this is what I have done for my little Lillie..

I bought a cat bed, the kind with a hood. I put the bed in the crate and pulled it all the way to the front of the crate. She really doesn't have any room in it but to sleep. She can stand up in it but, she doesn't have alot of room to roam. I made a little pillow for it and a blanket (for when it's cold). I make sure she does her nightly pee/poop, before she goes to bed. She has NEVER had an accident in her crate...This has worked really well for me.

Good Luck...I know these little buggers can be difficult sometimes!

Ohhh great idea! Right now I have her in the front of her crate with the back half blocked off, and blanket to lay on. She is constantly peeing on the blanket. I dont know if she can stand to sleep in there because the blaket absorbs the pee or what, but hopefully the bed will work!

Not every dog can go that long. Loki was 7-8 months old before he could hold it 4 hours and about a year before he could hold it for 5 or 6. He was also smart and would pee on the blanket and then shove the blanket under the crate divider. So after we took away all the blankets and made sure he went out every hour he did fine.

Of course it was a pain, but he's now totally house trained.
