Default Hello, I'm new here...

Hello everybody,

For a start I would like to apologize for my deficient English. : )

I just got, 3 weeks ago, a little female yorkie (Bit) she's 9 weeks old now.
It's been a while, or should I say a long time (25 years) since I had a dog...
I'm a "little" rusty in that matter and I'm sure I will need your help a lot.

I've always had cats since and have two of them now, two females (Pussy & Kitty).
They're not happy with "the invader" but they're not aggressive either.
They go "fsssss" whenever they cross her, Pussy gives her a slap from time to time, but she doesn't use her claws. I think they only want to make clear who's in charge. Bit doesn't seem very impressed by them, she's respectful and cautious but now she even barks to them from time to time, she wants to play... I think they just need time to be friends.

Everything is going fine with the dog, I think.
She had a little colite (?), but I took her to the Vet and she seems fine now.
She also had a beginning of an otitis but it's gone now too.
Apart from that she's wonderful (not house-broken yet, but I understand it's normal for her age), very playful, energic, sleeps a lot and eats very well...

I however wonder if you could help me with this particular question:
My girl seems to be terribly "pussy" (LOL) in some ways...
She's not afraid of people, or noises, or even other animals, in that way she's very courageous.
But she cries like hell, like if I was trying to kill her, and tries to escape, when I do anything to her... when I brush her, when I clean her paws, her ears, anything, she just can't stand to be touched... And believe me, I'm really gentle!
Is this normal?
How do I deal with it?
She doesn't complain at all if the touch is to play or to be caressed, she likes it a lot. My 5 year old son plays with her all the time and she never, ever, complained. She just doesn't want to be taken care of, like in toilet things...

Welcome to YT.

First of all, your English is not deficient. I wouldn't have known it wasn't your first language if you had not tipped me off.

As for the, um, "sissy" behavior when you groom, I don't think it's terribly unusual. I would encourage you to be consistent. Don't stop grooming just because your pup whines. Start slow. Go a little longer each time. Quit on a success, not a failure.

Sounds like she may have been taken away from mama a little too soon if she's 9 weeks now and you've had her for 3 weeks. That could be part of your problem.

Hopefully, a breeder or more experienced YTer will be able to answer your questions better.

In the meantime, welcome!

Welcome to YT and congrats on your new puppy.

I agree, just hang in there with the grooming, she's really young and it will take awhile. But, be patient and consistent and you'll get there!

Welcome to YT! I agree, be consistent, and start out grooming slowly. Doing a little more each time. Hopefully someone will have great advice for you!

Oh, and your english is great!

Welcome to YT. I agree with everyone, just keep trying to groom her, and eventually she'll begin to settle down.

Hi Welcome to YT!! Patience might be required abit more for your little girl, I would go very slow as she is still quite young. Good luck!!!

The more you do it she will get used to it and probably never likr it but learn to accept it. Mine hate it but they know they can't escape it.
