poop in one day!! Seriously! Sasha poops all the time, and I can't get her to do it outside! She pees almost exclusively outside, but she won't poop! I take her outside, bring her in, and five minutes later she's pooped in the house. Thankfully they are small, normal puppy turds that clean up easily, but she drops them like 5 times a day! And she won't do it outside! And she always does it in the five minutes I'm not looking at her, I'll be making lunch or something and she'll trot off to the computer room or down the hall and poop before I even know she's gone. I feel like I'm constantly watching her and she still gets away with it. And not only does she hate her crate still, she'll poop in it too so that does me no good!

Hah! Tia weigh's in at just over 2 lbs...and she varies between surprise poop attacks like you describe (it's hard to catch her doing it...always in the 2 seconds I'm not watching her. Also, she doesn't go for #2 at same time as #1)...Right now she's scaring me because she hardly ate anything yesterday besides the mini treats for training, and literally a few pieces of kibble. I guess that means no poop attacks until she eats a full meal again (I hope it's soon!)

I feel your pain. My Willow is a little over a pound at this point, not yet trained and poops constantly. It amazes me how much poop can come out of such a small dog! And if she eats a spoon full worth of food, out will come just as much. There is just no room to store it in her small little body. She eats several times a day right now so it is CONSTANT poopin'.

Her motto should be "So much poopin' so little time"

Could be she's getting way too much to eat in a days time. Stop all the snacks and feed her tiny protions of real food three to four times a day, making up a total of about 1/3 cup of food per day. Take her outside on the leash and make sure she gets walked really well to stimulate her. If after a while outside she hasn't pooped, don't let her have run of the house. Put her in a doggie fence with a wee-wee pad down. Not to let her run loose till she has pooped. YOu will soon find that she will poop at a certain time each day.

The food you feed has a lot to do with it also. If you feed a high quality food without all the granis and fillers you will see a huge difference in things...instead of pooping 5 or 6 times a day you will see once or maybe twice a day with no mess or smell. Plus your baby will be getting better nutrition.

Another small suggestion would be to get an ex-pen and keep her in it while you aren't able to literally WATCH her constantly. I have to watch my lil 2.5 pound 3.5 month old CONSTANTLY even though he rarely does poopys in the house, he has his occasional potty accident. But if I can't watch him, he is in he EX-PEN where I CAN watch him. If you don't watch out you are going to come upon a BUNCH of little surprises all over your house if she has free roam.

The food you feed her is important. A low residue high quality food will cut down on the problem. I feed chicken soup for puppies. My Max is fed 3x daily and goes about a half hour after feeding like clockwork. I had a Lab that was going constantly and couldn't keep up with the cleaning, not to mention the difficulty housebreaking. We switched her and what a difference.

Yes, the food is definitely important. I also feed chicken soup and my 3.5 pd only goes 1-2 times a day. Those cheap brands you buy in the stores just go right through them with all the fillers like corn etc.......

I feed mine Canidae and she still poops 5 times a day! Maybe I'll cut down on the amount. I might be over feeding her a bit!!! I was also wondering if it is a puppy thing. Lucy is only 6 months old.

I think it could be the puppy food too. I read where it's high in fat, so it makes them poop a lot.

I was wondering if it is a puppy thing and puppy food thing too. She eats science diet, which I know we all have opinions on (good and bad) but she really likes it and I think that's important since she eats it, I just want her to eat. She is only 2.5 months old, if her poop schedule doesn't regulate as she grows a bit I'll consider changing foods. She did poop outside yesterday, and practically got a parade for it, I was so excited!

Wow -- she's very young. Just keep doing what you're doing. The positive reinforcement really helps. She'll get it. She's way too young to be completely trained.

I know she's really young. I don't expect her to be completely trained yet, not for a while. I just wish I had some sort of an idea when she might poop hehe.

I know. When I was training my first yorkie, she would only have peeing accidents. Then when I got the second and she was a year old, I was shocked to see that she pooped on the floor. She still does it now and then.
