hello,

my six month old has been fairly good with going potty in the right place since i got him two months ago, until now. are there any possible explainations for this sudden change in behaviour?

is he paper trained? If so, do you trust him to just go? Peeka boo is potty trained, but usually we have to yell "Paper Peeka!" for him to run to where he's supposed to go. If he goes out to potty, maybe you should just say NO! loudly and take him out. Or if you cant just immediately open the door, pick him up and then take him out so he cant just go where he is. Peeka is 4mo by the way...

I'm not sure but I had the same problem and my yorkie is a year old. She start going on the sofa and our bed. From what I hear, it is harder to potty train smaller dogs. It could also be that your yorkie is marking its territory.

he's paper trained, and i generally do trust him to go potty when he pleases in the right spot. he's pretty much confined to the kitchen area when no one can watch him because it is big enough for him to run and play but small enough for him to know exactly where his potty, crate and feeding area are located. Just the sudden deviation in behaviour concerns me

lexi is going to be 2 yrs old next month and i have the same problem with
her..... beats the heck outta me why she does it..... i guess somehow the
smell is still imbedded in the rug...

That probably is the case because he has had accidents in that same spot when we started to train him when we first got him. However it's not on a rug, its on ceramic tile. Any cleaner recommendations? I'm using one now (i forget which one), but I guess it's not doing that great of a job

ok.. he doesn't seem to be improving. it's probably even worsening. no matter how much cleaner i use, he goes pee more in the same three (wrong) spots than ever before.. and now when he poops.. most of it is in his potty and then he fools us into thinking he is done then runs under the table to poop the rest out there >< any advice..?

I use Nature's Miracle stain remover. But my suggestion for the potty problem is: if you aren't already using them use Nature's miracle(I think that's the name, if not there's a post in my history about them called "grass scented pee pads") grass scented pee pads. I used them to train peeka boo, and I've noticed that since I've started using the ones w/o the grass scent, he either pees right next to the pad, or nowhere near it. So, I think the grass scented ones are a good bet.

Nature's miracle? alrighty.. i'll try that one next.. it will be my third brand. Hope the saying that "third time's a charm" is really true in this case. lol.
Also, i tried pee pads at my friends place once (because its what his dog used) and my dog FREAAAKKEEDDD out at the sight (or scent?) of it, then shredded it... I want to get him used to them somehow

Yeah, before I tried the Grass Scented ones I tried baking soda scented ones and Peeka HATED them. He wouldn't go on them and shredded them, then I tried the grass ones and he went right to them.

Kiba had the same problem when he was around that age. He started off doing really well on the training pad (Nature's Miracle Training pads always worked best for us), and then somewhere down the line he started having more and more "accidents." It got to the point where he was going wherever he pleased. Whenever you see that he needs to go, take him outside immediately. We started to spend a lot of time taking him outside and making sure he did his business out there before going back inside. He started getting used to it and it became his preferred habit to go outside. I don't know what it is, but maybe at some point they stop wanting to use the pee pads. Perhaps this is a good transitioning point to start steering him away from the pad, and training him to go outside. Hope this helps.

Ok my first question is...is this baby neutered? If not, then he is probably developing marking behavior. That is about the age that my Max started his. If that is it, I have no advice for you except getting him neutered they say can help but not always. If he is already neutered then it may be something else. I also used the nature's miracle cleaner and it works great but you have to follow the instructions. If you have ceramic tile then you need to spray some on the grout areas and let it dry. Do not wipe it up. The spray has to soak into the grout to get rid of all the smell. I learned this after many tries. LOL I hope that will help you. Do you crate him at all? If his behavior continues you may need to start crating him again and start training all over again. Some people say that helps.

How about taking a pee sample into the vet? Just to rule out any infection?

However it's not on a rug, its on ceramic tile. Any cleaner recommendations? I'm using one now (i forget which one), but I guess it's not doing that great of a job
