I think alot of us come to this part of the forum to vent. Well , here's mine.

I'm seriously fed up! I don't know what to do anymore. Zoey is driving me absolutely insane. I love her to death but sometimes I question myself. Not to mention I supposed to get a little boy in March. I'm wondering if that's such a good idea.

I can NOT get Zoey to pottytrain like she supposed too. She's 15 months old and refuses to do the right thing. Sometimes she goes to her pee pee pads and other times , she just doesn't care. I work second shift (and sometimes third). When i'm home , i'm sleep because I know I have to go to work in the evening and be up late hours. I came in the house tonight and a big whiff of urine slapped me dead in the face! Nice way to come home from a long day of fussing customers , right? I looked on my floor and there were about 10 pee stains from the door to the hallway staining my wonderful carpet! I got out the dirt devil cleaner and cleaned as much as I can but I am absolutely horrified.

With my work schedule , it's hard for me to train her like I supposed too but i'm trying my best. Sometimes when I put pads down , she'll run around the house with them in her mouth!

Guys , what do I do? I'm only 21 and i'm going bald from pulling my hair out. I don't want to be Britney Spears! Someone told me to try and put a pee pee pad in a litter box which I haven't got around to doing yet but I will Thursday. Anymore suggestions? Please help me before they have to put me in the hospital for aging. Hopefully Jasper (my new pup) will be alot better with training.

The first thing that I would do, if I were you, would be to keep Zoey contained in an area that doesn't have carpet - like the kitchen or laundry room. Once the carpet smells like urine, it says to the dog: "pee here!". Keep her off the carpet when you aren't there to supervise her.

It is extremely difficult to toilet train a dog when no-one is there with them for such long periods of time. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is difficult. If your long hours are going to continue, I hate to say it, but I seriously doubt that training another puppy will be any easier. If this problem is driving you insane, you might want to reconsider that decision.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is my 2 cents worth.

It doesn't sound harsh at all. I understand completely where you're coming from. As far as keeping her away from an area that doesn't have carpet , I can do that. I'd rather put her in the laundry room because my kitchen is always occupied.

However , my thing is this. People are always saying how older dogs get , the longer they can hold their urine. I think that's the problem. She's running free around my house without supervision so she's doing as she pleases which has got to STOP. My mom said I need to put her in a crate while i'm at work. I feel like 8 hours is a long time to be stuck in a crate but I feel like that's the only way she's going to fully learn. She won't soil her crate. When I get home from work , I can take her right out of the crate and take her to a pee pee pad , praise her , and pray that she'll continue the process.

I think i'm going to make a schedule that doesn't conflict with my work schedule and try to go by that on a daily basis. Hopefully it'll help.

I got Pixie 3 1/2 weeks ago and she is 13 months old and not housebroken. She was in the Breeders house in a large pen with newspaper. The first 2 days she would go anywhere I thought I made a huge mistake getting her. Then after talking to a couple people on here I started treating her like a new puppy. Not allowed off the paper area unless supervised. I switched to the Jump Start wee wee pads and had 12 of them down and everytime Pixie started sniffing I would put her on the pads and when she went I would praise her and give her a little treat. Now I am down to 3 pads down and she has only had 2 accidents in 3 weeks. It does help alot that I am home full time. The problem I am having now is that Cali has started to not use the pads out of spite I think. So I will treat her like a puppy again also. Good Luck!

I feel your pain! Sadie is just now getting the idea and she is 3 yrs old...she still has accidents and will go on my rugs...I have a pup too...Lillie is 8 months old..she was doing better potty training when I first brought her home than she is doing now..(she was 8 weeks when I brought her home)..First you shouldn't be giving her the run of the house. She needs to be blocked in an area with out carpet. Try picking up her food and water around 8 at night. I can't use the paper pee pads either. Lillies thinks they are fun to pull around the house and tear up. I use cloth pee pads. They work great! Leaving her in her crate for 8 hours is way too long. If you have a laundry room I would set her up in their with her food, water, bed, pee pad and some toys. If I were you I would really think twice about getting another one. (sorry to say). Having 2 is double work and if your frustrated now a second one is only going to make it worse for you.

OP--have you considered outside training? With your schedule the way it is, it sounds like you might do well trying that. When they go outside, they learn that no where in the house is an acceptable place to go potty. You have to be on it, though, in the beginning, and watch them like a hawk. So that you catch them each time they are about to go, or when they have gone in the house, so you can correct them.

If not, I agree, she needs to have as little free reign when--you're not there to watch her--as possible.

You might want to hold off on getting a second one until it's under control.

I can totally FEEL your pain, trust me LOL

What I would do is put her in a smaller space where there is no carpet. Go back to basics. But I would not leave her in a crate for 8 hours ... that's just too long in my opinion. I don't think a dog should be left in a crate for longer than 3-4 hours max. Maybe you can put her in the bathroom or laundry room -- that should be enough space for her to move around but small enough to give her a crate-like effect.

8 hours during the day is too long. She will soil her crate after 4 hrs. and then roll in it for the rest of the time. She won't be happy about it, and neither will you when you come home to a stinky dog. Why don't you try an exercise pen, put a pee pad in one corner, and fill the rest with her toys and crate?

I totally agree with lolabella....we are still training our puppy and we've decided to invest in the crate, the expen, the pee pads, the odour neutralizer...the whole nine yards!

The odour neutralizer is great because if you're diligent about cleaning up after accidents, puppy won't be able to smell where s/he went last time.

My vet recommended not using pee pads because they feel like carpeting. instead to use a litter box with some kind of safe litter substrate. This way your dog will more easily be able to train to go outside (instead of being a potty snob..."you want me to do what? here?"). There is most likely nothing else in your house that will have the texture of the litterbox, and s/he will more quickly associate that that is where to go potty.

We ahve her in an ex-pen during the day, because like you we find that we're gone for too long for her to hold it....however, she rarely goes potty there and wakes us up in the morning to let her out to do potty else where (at 12weeks....peeing is 80% in the right place....pooping is everywhere but!)

It's frustrating, but remember, s/he is living in your house, not the other way around, and in the end you'll both be happier.

I'm having the same issues here times two! I have 3 puppies ages 10 months, 8 months, and 4 months and the only one that is totally potty trained is the 10 month old. The 8 month old is 60/40 trained and Lula my 4 month old thinks she can pee wherever, whenever. I'm home with them all day, but if I take my eye of of her for ONE second she's already done her business and if I leave my fiancee to watch her, forget it! She pees all over the house.

Just today I spread out my xpen to span 1/2 of my dining room, only giving them access to the half totally lined with pee pads. I'd like to be able to teach them that pee pads AND outside is acceptable.. but I'd prefer only outside potties.

Anyhow, I feel your frustration

on my already stained greyish, yellow carpet... not a happy camper either.

I understand your frustrations because my little Abby is 15 months and she too does the same thing. She will go on her pad but, also anywhere else that seems to look good. I think it takes a lot of time and effort on our parts before they will totally potty train. I work from home and it’s still hard for me. I decided to put her in my kitchen (tile floor) during the times that we are unable to give her attention. Well, she still pied all over the place including her pad SO, we took her down to a smaller area (1/2 bath room) and that seems to keep her going only on her pad. Do you crate? Maybe that’s something you will need to do until you can totally train your yorkie….I still have trouble with her when we have her out to play because she’s so little that she will want to go all the time so I watch her very closely and scoop her up and to her pad we go if she even looks like she’s going to go. You will get there but I don’t think buying another one would be a good idea until you can deal with the one you have.

If you have a Sam’s Club near you they sell this wonderful product called “Odo Out” and it will take the smell completely away for good. You will still smell the pee and maybe even more before it dries but, after it dries the smell will be gone. I have beautiful white carpet that gets cleaned every three months. It kills me when she decides to pee everywhere!

Maybe this will help a little!

Thanks for all of these wonderful replies. You guys are awesome. I've calmed down a little but my bedroom still smells like pee and it's driving me nuts! I've come to a conclusion.

I'm still going to get my new puppy in March. I've already paid for him and the breeder is excited that he's going to a good home so I don't want to let her down. I'm going to buy an ExPen and keep them in that when i'm at work. I'm going to let them out to play , eat , drink , and whatever else when I get home. Then it's to the pads and then in the crate. I'll leave them in the crate for awhile , let them out to use the pad and then back in the crate. Wake up the next morning , play , eat drink , and then it's in the ExPen when i'm off to work. Hopefully this will work. It works with my schedule and I think it'll be good for them. Zoey is going to hollar , scream , and cry when she see's that crate but she'll be alright. I've used a crate in the past but only for her to sleep in. Now is the time to get potty training FULLY!

Thanks again guys! I'm off to clean my carpet ... again.

Have you tried using a carpet shampooing vacuum cleaner? They rent them out at grocery stores, and they really help get the accumulated dirt and stink out.
I am glad you feel better about the whole process.

My girl does pretty good with her pad training & will also go outside if weather permits-she does sometimes have accidents. I also work 3rd but just 3 days a week so we sleep til sometimes 3p even after she has probably slept most the night. I was thinking about getting a boy, then thought its probably not a good idea, maybe a girl...but after I think about it, I like taking her everywhere, It is hard enough w/just her, she's 14 months. I think I'm going to hold off for awhile. They are so addicting you would collect them if they didnt pee everywhere,lol. I'm not sure how big your girl is or if she's a climber but if you use the laundry room I would use a a gate or even a training crate before I'd lock her in a small room w/the door closed.
