Default where did i go wrong?

i am just beside myself right now... layla and i just got back from obedience and she snaps at all the dogs there... i thought today was going to be a good day.. we got there and there is a 5 month old golden retiever there named Kaylee .. they said hello... layla was very good... but then later we were working on "go to bed" and layla snapped at her... twice... and this isn't the first time.. she is very aggresseive towards another dog in class... i am so embarassed and so upset.. i started crying.. i felt so stupid.. but i didn't raise her ot be like this.. layla plays SO well at day care... she has a bichon and a husky cousin who she plays well with.. she even has a VERY yappy yorkie friend who she loves... even though he barks and snaps at her.. i am at a loss.. my heart hurts and i feel so sick.. we go in thrsuday night for a one on one and our trainer is going to take her throughout the store and try and set her straight... i'm bewildered.. this is NOT the layla i know.. she loves everyone... every dog... i'm so upset.

Just like children, your dog is not going to like all other dogs that she encounters.

This doesn't mean that you have to tolerate this behaviour, but on the flip side, don't blame yourself. It sounds like you're on the right path to fixing it, rather than just shrugging it off and letting it go like all too many owners do w/ our little ones.

Keep your chin up and stick w/ your training!

Give her sometime to get use to it, have you ever watch Cesar Milan (The dog whisper) could be that the pack there is unbalance and only take one of them to set her off.

Maybe it's the leash. The local dog park is an off leash park and before you enter, they have a sign that says not to enter the park with the leash attached because it makes the dog defensive with the leash on since they are at a disadvantage from being confined to the leash.

I don't know... just a thought...

She is protecting you at the obedience classes, at daycare you leave right? so she can play w/out having to think about protecting her precious owner. She probably is ok before class but then she knows she is being taught something & protecting mom is her best trick You may see if the teacher will handle her during class to test the theory & then see what you can do to work on her protectiveness of you. My girl bites my husbands hands when he touches me, just that little pinching/warning bites-but they still hurt. She is she tiniest sweetest little thing ever until someone messes w/her momma -then its on. I picked up my friends dog & she charged & snapped, didnt want mom holding another dog, I corrected her & she ran, hid & cried real tears, I love that she loves me so much but I know the behavior isnt healthy for long term because one bad behavior breeds another & another...I am working on correcting her. I could be wrong, but something to think about.

I'm with Rachelsyorkie---I though I had the most aggressive dog ever and when leaving (and praying) him at the Petshotel or at the groomers I was very aprehensive. However, when he is away from his family the reports I get are he is the sweetest little dog ever--who LOVES to play with other dogs. At first I thought they had the wrong dog but as I see it, he doesn't have to worry about protecting me from others when I'm not around. Sadly, that doesn't deal with those who come around when I AM with him, but we are working on this. Good luck!
