Angry Keeps Peeing On The Bed! So Frustrating!

okay i take snickers out 3 times a day to go potty outside. i take him at night at around 7 o'clock and he doesnt have any accidents after that. SOMETIMES..like one a month or one every two months, he'll have an accident on the bed! and he knows its bad!! and he has the nerve to do it right in FRONT of MY FACE.he tries to jump off the bed really fast..(leaving a trial of pee from the bed to the floor) he does this because he sleeps with me on the bed, he has his own bed and everything to sleep on when im at school and stuff, but im getting so tired of his peeing on the bed behavior!! i've even punished him before by not letting him sleep with me on the bed, and he whined and whined the whole entire night!! but that still doesnt work! and PLUS I LOVE IT WHEN HE SLEEPS WITH ME! i cant bear to punish him by making him sleep by himself!! He never ever pees or poops on the bed while he is asleep for the whole night with me, he only does this during the day.. does anyone have any ideas or tips how i could handle this situation!? its getting really frustrating when i have change my sheets all the time!! sometimes he even does it twice in a week! ITS IRRITATING!!! driving me NUTS!

I'm not sure that I understand. He only does it during the day - is this late in the morning, when you are napping together, or what? Sorry - just need more info before I can brainstorm any possible solutions.

he does it late during the day, usually AFTER about 1 hour of taking him outside to go potty, he usually does it when I'm playing with him on the bed with a toy or something.

I guess if he was mine, I'd be taking him out more often to potty. My three could never make it just going out 3 or 4 times a day. Maybe you could try that for a while and see if his behavior changes....

Default my heart goes out to you

i just read your story and i can't help but feel your pain. i have the EXACT same problem. same time of day and everything. what we had to start doing is closing the bedroom door so he couldn't go in there during the evening hours. i just couldn't take it anymore. i even know what you mean when you say he did it right in front of you and then jumped off the bed and left a trail. it's been a few months now and keeping the dorr closed has been successful but i'm very scared to leave the door open again, which i would eventually like to do.

Three or four times a day is not nearly enough peeing time. What is going to happen is he will end up with kidney problems. I wouldn't play with him on the bed anyway. Bed is for sleeping, and should be taught that right away. Also you said you take him out at 7 pm. Is that what time you go to bed? You should be letting him out about every hour or two all day and on up till 10 or 11 at night.

I think he's marking territory. As I've said on this board before, my dog marks on the floor and I'm still working with her to get her to stop. One thing is that you have to make sure the scent is GONE, or he'll mark there again. Maybe you should stop letting him on the bed. I also heard that spaying and neutering helps marking. It would help a lot if you did some research on the web. Here's a great site with some articles about marking:

http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/dog_tips.php

There's one article that addresses marking on the bed. There are tons of great articles about other things there too. Good luck. I feel your pain too!

I don't remember seeing how old your dog is but when Pip was a really young pup, any serious playing would stimulate her, and as soon as we would finish, she'd pee! The best thing to do is be one step ahead, play for a while, then stop, scoop up the baby and take him where he needs to go at. Don't put him down, coz it'll just be on the floor. Hold him until you get him where you want him then put him down. While the pup is playing, the urge to go is overrode by the enjoyment of the play. Once the play stops, then all of a sudden the pup becomes aware of the urge to go. It's the same with taking them outside to potty. They want to run, sniff, investigate, so they forget what they came out there for, after all they ARE babies! After a suitable amount of time, you bring the pup in only to have it squat on the floor! My Pip would do the same, so I would use the word "outside" as her key word for doing her business. I'd watch her, let her run and sniff, then after a few minutes, I'd say "outside". I swear she had a look on her face like, "Oh yea, I do need to go!" and she'd squat and take care of it. Their little memories are short...keep reminding them!

My puppy, Tifa has this problem! I feel your pain... it's VERY frustrating. What makes it worse is that she isn't housebroken yet, she only goes on the pad. She knows she's in trouble when she pees on the bed; however, it hasn't stopped. We have to keep our bedroom door closed all the time, too. It sucks to have to be paranoid about the bedroom door being open. We got her around the beginning of winter, so it's been harder to potty train her since it's been so cold. When it gets a little warmer we will try the housebreaking process again, and hopefully this will change the annoying bad habit. If anyone has any advice in the meantime, it would be GREATLY appreciated!

It's amazingly frustrating. Does she do it when there are other dogs around? She's not doing it to be mean or spiteful. Scroll up a few posts and click on the link I posted. Then scroll down and there are two good articles about marking territory. I got mine when she was over a year old and she has the habit so deeply ingrained, it's very hard to change it. You should have an easier time. And like I said above, spaying will really help if you're planning on doing that. It didn't help with mine, but again, she's older and harder to train. Keep us posted!

In that case, I wouldn't play with him on the bed! {I don't mean to sound like I'm minimizing your problem, but it does seem easily prevented - or maybe there's "more to the story"?}.

That approach is definitely worth a try. You can just shut the bedroom door when she's "free".

She's very stealth about it, but when I do catch her, she's usually by herself. She knows it's bad because when I catch her she immediately jumps off and hides under the bed. I don't think we plan on spaying her. It could be more of a potty training issue than territory marking. If there's no pee pad around, she will go on anything that resembles or will act as a pee pad. I'm pretty sure sticking a pee pad in the bedroom would be a solution, but who really wants to sleep next to one? I guess we'll just have to see how things go.

If I am reading your plight correctly it looks like the last time he is
taken out at night is 7:00pm? If that is correct no wonder he is having
accident's in bed, I would too if that was the last bathroom break
I had before morning! That is too much time for your little one to have
to hold it. Last time out should be around 9:30 or 10:00. I think you
are expecting to much from the little guy.
If he is only having an accident once in awhile that's a miracle.
